Hey ladies! Here are a few ideas to consider while spending time with your sailor:

Great Lakes Golf Center http://greatlakesgolfcenter.com/
Sears Tower http://www.willistower.com/
Eat Chicago deep dish pizza at Giordano's http://www.giordanos.com/
Go swimming in the indoor pool at your hotel
Pile up on the bed in your hotel room with a big bowl of popcorn and watch movies
Chicago Segway Tour (sign up for a tour of Chicago while riding the Segway) http://www.chicagosegwaytour.com/
Navy Pier http://www.navypier.com/
Great Lakes Naval Museum http://www.greatlakesnavalmuseum.org/
The Shedd Aquarium looks pretty cool. It's in Chicago.
And yea, the Harry Potter movie will interst a lot of them. Here's a theater that looks pretty close, about 15 minutes away. Not sure if the movie will still be showing then.
Hmmm.... I put links there, let's see if they show up
You have to put the link or name of the link in the post, highlight it, then click on the hyperlink icon. Put the url in the box and it should show up.
The U-505 museum. This is the only captured German submarine in the United States... It has a real good story at the below links... Located in Chicago at the Museum of Science and Industry.

That's what I usually do to but then I saw the link button above and it looked like it was actually going to work on this page. But it didn't. I'll add the links
Coming from Florida, where public transportation is minimal. Do you take a taxi everywhere, or what? Or is it best to rent a car? (Although I have NEVER seen snow..so driving in it may not necessarily be a good idea)
My sailor and I got a hotel in Libertyville (Days Inn), and we found everything a reasonable (and chatty) walk from the hotel, but we're used to walking long distances to get to local stores, bus stops, etc. Took us maybe half an hour walking briskly to get from there to Caribou Coffee (about a mile walk, according to my GPS) and the movie theater in Libertyville, maybe another ten min past that to get to Five Guys Burgers and Fries. We found a car might have been nice, but with the roads a little slippy I wouldn't have been comfortable driving.
Honestly, we mostly hung out in the hotel and caught up on everything, whether it was in the letters or not - after two months of having every minute of every day planned for him, I thought the best gift I could give him was free time. :)
Check out Wildberry Pancakes (I think in North Chicago - really close), they have excellent breakfast and lunch!
Bank of America has discounts this weekend at Shedd Aquarium:

Bank of America’s Museums on Us Program

Admission benefits are not transferable and are valid for the cardholder only. This offer is not valid during special events or for admission to the 4-D theater.

2010 Museums on Us weekends are:
Nov. 6-7, Dec. 4-5
The Field Museum of Natural History is a nice way to spend a day - I believe the Military get in free there too - it's right next to Soldier Field (home of da Bears). We had PIR in January so we really just tried to find places to stay warm. Walked thru the mall in Waukegan up and down about 8 times too, and had lunch at the Rainforest Cafe.
