I was reading on my phone and accidentally deleted my post trying to do too much at once!  To me a fitness ribbon downplays the accomplishments displayed by the existing ones.  There's already an incentive for fitness in place - stay in shape or you're out, basically physical readiness program. And there are awards given for outstanding performance in many areas, should suffice.  & of course you're right Jane :)

This article was in the Navy Times. Thought you'd all be interested:

Tell us what you think: PRT ribbons

Staff report
Posted : Tuesday Jul 12, 2011 12:27:39 EDT

If Navy fitness officials have their way, top performers on the physical readiness test may soon rate a fitness ribbon.
The Navy Physical Readiness Program Office has proposed that sailors who score “outstanding” five times on the PRT be awarded a fitness ribbon as a way of encouraging sailors to excel. What do you think of this idea? Is this a good way to motivate sailors to do better? Should sailors need a ribbon to do well on the PRT?
Overall, do you believe there are other activities or abilities that should rate ribbons for top performance? Already, the Navy has ribbons for good conduct, exceptional volunteer work and recruiting. Should there be an award specifically for life-saving? Or for being an outstanding mentor?
And there are separate awards for rifle and pistol marksmanship. What about warfare awards that are more Navy-specific, such as firing torpedoes, anchoring ships or fixing airplanes?
On the flip side, do you believe there are already too many awards? If so, which ones would you get rid of?
We’d like to hear what you think. Contact staff writer Sam Fellman with your ideas. Be specific: Your comments may be used in an upcoming story.

Almost midnight, but just now getting a chance to post. Had a feeling this would happen, but just picked up another pet sitting job yesterday that will run through the weekend. So sorry that I won't be able to be at the meeting tomorrow night.

Marcy or Jane....would you please be so kind to post how the meeting went and how the plans are coming for Aug. 7. Will we have an approximate head count, so we know get a feel for how much food we will need. I was going to ask and look in the meeting room if there are enough outlets to plug in crock pots if need be. Just a thought.
Gotta get some shut eye. Good night ladies.

I will, as soon as he gets over here.  He has to pick up his car in San Diego, run some errands, and will be here in a day or two.  I had planned on meeting him in San Diego, but the Navy moved up his departure date 2 days, and he was flying stand-by.  Luckily, a friend of his (who has Eric's car) is meeting him at the airport so he will see a friendly face.  We plan on having a family celebration when he gets here.  Can't wait!

Just wanted to share - my son Eric is on his way back to San Diego (should be landing around 7:00 p.m. tonight) after having been on the USS Ronald Reagan since February 2 of this year!  He has one month of leave, then he starts 2 years of shore duty on Coronado Island.  He called me from Philadelphia today at 12:30 p.m. - he was already on the plane and waiting for take-off.  The Navy flew him from the ship to Bahrain on Sunday, and his journey started there.  Needless to say, he is so excited!  Can't wait to see him.
