Thought you ladies would like to know that I have been asked to be the Blue to Gold Liaison/Chaplain for the East Valley Blue Star Mothers. I don't remember if I already shared on this forum that I am an ordained nondenominational minister. First became a family chaplain in 2004. Then was ordained in 2006 after three years of ministerial school studying the major religions of the world, spiritual leadership, sacred ceremonies, life issues, and so much more.

Thought I'd tell you now, so you wouldn't be too surprised at the meeting if you are going Thursday night. So now you all know a bit more about me!

TanksMom....Welcome! Sure glad you joined us here!

I think you may find everyone has a bit of a different experience of what they were allowed to do and not do the day their recruit leaves for BC.

We also went downtown to MEPS and stayed with our sailor and watched him swear in and was able to take lots of pics. Then as MommyHunt already mentioned, they need to go to the airport in a group. So we drove ourselves to the airport and met him there.

Only thing...for us...which was in November 2010, when we asked to go to the gate, they said NO! So we just all walked in and found a little coffee shop and sat there and talked for over an hour. Then the group of recruits went on their way!  So I guess we never know what rules will apply at the airport at any given time, but there is always a way to visit even if you can't go to the gate. You'll have to let us know what your experience turns out to be!

Also, once you find out your son's PIR date (Bootcamp graduation), you will want to join that forum also! You'll love chatting with Moms/Wives who are keeping track of the BC process!

Do you know what his rate/job is going to be? There will also be a forum for that you can join as well. We learn a lot on those "specific" forums.

Again, Welcome and best of luck to your new recruit!

Welcome, Tank's Mom!  My son was almost 24 when he went in, too - he will have been in the Navy six years on December 6, and he is now stationed in San Diego for three year's shore duty.  Eric enlisted when he was living in Prescott, so I was not there, as I live in Tempe.  I don't remember much about his going, other than he called when he was at Sky Harbor.  I'm sure someone will help you figure it out.  Good luck to him and you, too!  Aren't you so very proud of him?!

Good morning, All!  Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

Jane - I presume Hayden left to go back to San Diego?  I'm sure you had a wonderful visit and hated to see him go.  Now, it's your turn to go visit him in San Diego!  And thanks for the info about the CVS!  I shall try to get over there tomorrow and ask if Laura is there.

Everyone - have a great day!

ooops..I meant Jane..not Nane! silly fingers.

Nane...your prayers and support are the best thing to offer to Ryley's family. The power of prayer is awesome...and received on a much deeper level than any spoken word can be.

I too, will keep Ryley's family in my heart and prayers that they may find the strength to move through this difficult time now and in the months/years that follow they continue to be blessed with God's perfect comfort and the courage to be more alive each day of their own lives in his honor.
