No way can you be sad when you get to see your boy, even just for the day!  PIR is phenomenal, wouldn't miss that for the world.  Plus the relief of knowing where he's headed, and you can go see him there :)   By the way Jojo, he couldn't be a corpsman on a sub, I realized today that only IDCs - "independent duty corpsmen" - are assigned to subs, and IDCs are E5 or above with have years of training.

I didn't realize that a recruit could sign up and leave for bootcamp without a contract stating what his rate/job will be. That seems a bit scary to me. Shows how much I know!

At PIR, we totally lucked out with seating. My husband was mending from foot surgery and was on crutches (fun in January at GL...walking on snow and ice !). So we were given a chair with a back on the floor right in front of the bleaches marked for our sailor's division. We could have reached out and grabbed him as he marched by!

There's really not a bad seat as long as you're sitting in the area marked for their division. I want to go to another PIR!!!

Corpsman is good - but I'm partial :)

Our count is up to 54 tonight!

JoJo - ditto what everyone said.  Also, when I would hear from my son (via e-mail or phone), I'd ask his why I hadn't heard from him, and he would say, "Mom!  I've been busy!"  Little consolation, but I am sure your son is fine, too!

Ditto what Barb said.  Jojo (this is what I DON'T like about N4M, the BC group and too much info) - There are hundreds of sailors, RELAX!!  :)
