Kathy...have him go through the Navy travel for his tickets.  They get a great discount on their airfare, they have to pay a fee but with my son it has always been cheaper for him to get the tickets, and I get so jealous of how little he has had to pay for them.   Good luck to you and your Sailor.

Thanks, Barb.  I'll keep this page updated (and I'm sure I'll have questions for everyone).  WOO HOO 16 days to go.  She is in the marching band and it has been working her butt off doing double-duty.  Besides the normal "loud mouths" that could not keep quiet (giving the div pleanty of IT), they ALSO had a pair of loved ones that decided to start writing lovenotes to each other.  Those two were asmo'd and also gave the div extra IT.  My daughter is going to come out of BC looking like WWF's Chyna (female wrestler from the 90's)  LOL

anita...you are soooo right...everyone's experience is different!

And you are so right that she will be great for the Navy! Your daughter sounds like a very bright, brave, and enthusiastic young woman. You're gonna be a great Navy Mom! Wishing your daughter much success and fun adventures!

Keep us posted!

She has 2 years of law enforcement under her belt so I don't know if she'll plan to try to do something that way.  I've heard good and bad about undes but just like child birth - no one experience is the same for everyone.

She went to MEPS, tested, did all the medical.  At that time there was no jobs.  Her recruit took her back 2 times and the Navy decided to have her go in undes.  She has no clue as to what she wants to do, just knows she wants to serve in the Navy - so this maybe the best route for her.  Naw, I'm not scared for her.  She will be great for the Navy and they will be good for her too.

Anita..Chief Angie will probably answer too, but from what I've learned so far about "undes" is that they attend a "short" general type "A" seaman school, and then are on their way out to the fleet. I think she needs to be prepared to be doing a lot of deck work and generally whatever is needed to be done on the ship. Another experienced Mom told me then in time, her Chief will work with her to see what she may be good at doing, and help guide her in that direction. Don't want to scare or discourage you, but going "undes" makes for a slower process in attaining a specific rate/job. Everything will work out, I just hope she doesn't expect it all too quickly.

anita...can you tell us why she needed to go "undes" ?

Ladies..I'll be out of pocket now most of the day...hubby will be having cataract surgery in a couple hours. He's looking forward to having his "cloudy" vision corrected! Darn...I guess now I'll have to dust the house more often!

I have absolutely no idea which one she will be going to.  She came to BC "undesignated" so I have no idea.  She went into BC as an E2 and was told will graduate as an E3 (Naval Jr ROTC background).  The last two years of high school she took a vocation in Law Enforcement but I don't know if she want to stay in that path.  So - your guess is as good as mine  LOL

Angie-my son never received my birthday card which contained gift cards.  Is there someone that I can report this to?  I know future mailings will be insured.

Thank you.
