Sandy- I second that idea that Big D suggested! It could be added to when something else comes up.
ProudGMBarb- I'd forgotten about the shirt stays. One of the first things he bought after PIR. That and the dog tag covers. It was so neat hearing how your g-son cleaned up Walmart! What a wonderful young man he sounds and no wonder you're proud of him- you have every right to be!
@BigD. That is a very good idea!! I think I will start a discussion on Rules.
Julie and Lori. My son was very concerned about his uniform being perfect and how he conducted himself out in public (after PIR). There are SDC's and Navy personnel everywhere you go in GL. You never know who you might run into. I remember returning to our hotel and we bumped into a 1st class Petty Officer. My Sailor Son just about turned pale as a sheet of paper, LoL. The Petty Officer was very friendly and congratulated Bren on his PIR and welcomed him to the Navy.
I guess there will always be those few Sailors who don't obey the rules. They are the ones who have a hard road a head of them.
Maybe Angie can tell us if this is correct.. I have heard...and may be reason we saw some smoking on Liberty graduation weekend...(again I don't know if this is correct)...if after PIR they move across the street and are out of the boot camp side, then they are allowed to smoke on Liberty. But if they are still staying on boot camp side for a few days after PIR, then it is a no-no. Does this seem correct? This would also fit in with not be allowed cell phones, etc. until they move across the street.
It would be nice if none of our young sailors smoked at all and took care of their health..but it's a personal choice I know. At least the no drinking applies across the board..no matter where your barracks are...and that's a good thing I think!
And Lori...you are right...all the sailors would have heard the rules before they get on the school side. Our sailor told us it is "bull.s..t" if they say they didn't know about cell phone rules, etc. He said that by now they all know what is expected of them. It's a great feeling knowing our young boys/girls are clearly becoming mature and responsible. They are indeed our future.
Sandy- 14 div! Why are there so many if things are "over manned" at this time?
Seems like all the sailors would have heard the rules even before they get on the school side. And if they managed to grad from BC you would think they would be ultra cautious in keeping the rules.
Lori, I think maybe there have been a lot of new Sailors fresh from PIR breaking the rules about Cell phones. There is going to be a flood of new Sailors coming to GL (A)school side soon. I looked it up. In one week there is going to be 14 divisions graduating. Maybe once a week we should discuss the rules regarding Cell phones, Liberty and other issues.?
Renick- patience? Welcome to Navy life! keep busy- write him letters- clean the house-anything! The time will go by before you know it!
I wondered what happened to "love" as well. A "plant"? I know it happens all the time on the BC site but it seems strange for this group doesn't?
