For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Should I bring his clothes, phone and laptop and put them in the Lock and Go or will it really be 6 weeks before he can go get them?

Comment by lori on January 25, 2011 at 3:47pm: DebBon- it does take some getting used to all the terms. ET- electronic technician FC- fire control. Did your son get a Blue Jacket Manuel before he left? It's a Navy handbook that talks about everything and tells you what rates are what. Very helpful. When I was visiting my son in GL last Oct he took me to Naperville town to the little shops there. We had a great time. I stayed with a friend in Romeoville. It must be nice for you to be so close to GL as then he will be able to come home when he has phase 2.

Sailors should review contracts very carefully before turning it on any phone and using it in a foreign port. There's been more than one mom here bewailing their sailor's $2,000+ bill. The roaming charges are killer. Every sailor should call their provider before deploying and make arrangements for a military suspension on their phones. Just because you can turn it on and use it, doesn't mean you'll enjoy paying the bill.

Comment by chandlersmom on January 25, 2011 at 1:20pm: I ordered chandler a laptop from verizon and it came with the media card built in. I paid 35.00 for it and its a 2 year contract. He pays 50 a month for the service and it is global.
