Phoenixmom Thank you.  I am hoping we find out in the next few days what his next steps are.  If he gets deployed or if there is a chance that they will push him back again or what will happen.  I do appreciate all information!

6 Things to Know About PACT Program(Hope this Helps)

  1. Based on Fleet input and Sailor feedback, a Navy working group has been reviewing ways to improve the Professional Apprenticeship Career Track (PACT) program. The group’s goal is to stabilize program inventory, reduce training requirements on the fleet, decrease command personnel turnover and empower command triads.
  2. To ensure all Sailors have an evaluation period and on-the-job training (OJT) opportunity, effective Aug. 31, we are reinstating the 12 months onboard requirement before PACT Sailors can submit their designation application. Sailors with less than 12 months onboard who have already submitted rating designation application can continue the application process.
  3. PACT Sailors will continue to use Career Waypoints (C-WAY) – PACT Designation module to request designation. To help increase career opportunities, Sailors are encouraged to take advantage of their command’s Career Development Boards and the Career Exploration Module (CEM) within the C-WAY system.
  4. The monthly application ranking in C-WAY is being modified, moving the time onboard higher in the sort. This change will provide greater weight to experience and allow more time for OJT.
  5. Progress has been made in providing timely rating designation for PACT Sailors. All eligible PACT Sailors who entered boot camp in fiscal year 2012, Year Group (YG)12, have been given the opportunity for a rating designation and YG13 Sailors are on track to receive designation opportunities by end of September. All YG14 Sailors will receive designation opportunities by end of fiscal year 2016.
  6. Work to improve the program based on Fleet input and Sailor feedback continues, including encouraging mentorship, exploring ways to provide greater career opportunities for PACT Sailors, and modifying recruitment goals to help increase opportunity for Sailors to designate into their desired rating.
  7. For more information on PACT program improvements read the NAVADMIN at www.npc.navy.mil.

My Sailor has double rocked (failed twice) in ATT School, he will go before the Academic Review Board to determine the next step.  The history is this, when he took the ASVAB prior to the DEP program, he was told he qualified for AECF-ET and when in BC it was said to him that he did not qualify but because he scored high in other areas they would put him through.  Not sure this was the best option.  He went to ATT and failed the first time and they pushed him, while he did better this time there were some issues.  While they did push him and he did MNS (Mandatory Night Studies) and Open learning, he found those that were helping during those sessions were not teaching him correctly.  When he did his homework they way they instructed/taught him the homework was failing.  He addresses this with his instructor and was told that there are some that should not be teaching/instructing.  Basically you have to live with it.  So, he was left on his own to try and figure it out.  This is quite upsetting for him as he has NEVER had problems with academics until now.  While I explained if he can say to him, "He gave his all and did his best at 100% to hold his head up and stand tall and even though the ARB may say he is a failure to ignore it and know he is NOT a failure!"  Them letting him through on this rate may NOT have been the best thing and that he will find his rate just may take a little longer.

While we do not know what is going on with this latest yet, what are the chances they will put him in another rate or will he just go to S-Pact (I think)?  Just trying to determine what the possible next steps are.  He is comfortable with what lies ahead because he knows he did give his all.  Not making any excuses there were extenuating circumstances that didn't help, however in the Navy we know it doesn't matter.

Any help in understanding would be greatly appreciated.  TIA.

I live about four hours away from Great Lakes...so I am going to try and sneak down there. At the very least it will be one more time to see him there before he moves on. Also, he is graduating so close tomChristmas I am not sure he can come straight home. He might need to go to next duty station and then home for the stand down. But who knows. It's so hard to know until closer. But I am going to try and go.

Some sailors will be “frocked” as Petty Officers which is a big accomplishment. Find out you may want to be there in attendance or to be there to participate in the frocking

Most "A" School graduations are around 30 minutes or so and the Sailors receive their certificates for completing the training and there is an opportunity for loved ones to take pics if they are there. Generally there are not many loved ones in attendance since the Sailors usually do take about 10 days of Leave following "A" School graduation, but it is a nice ceremony if your Sailor wants you to attend. Some Sailors do not take leave between "A" School and "C" School if their "C" School is scheduled to start within the next two weeks. Your Sailor will know his specific situation as his graduation draws near.
