Just a little FYI about stuff getting stolen...the ship my husband is in they have like 4 roommates and their doors stay open 24/7. They are all propped open and they even sleep with them open. He said it makes it easier for inspections and stuff. They all make sure there stuff is ALWAYS locked up in their lockers. The lockers are there for a reason. Stuff should not be left out for any reason unless the sailor is in the room using it! This is just one more thing they need to master now before they get on a ship!

>>Tiff's Mom Sharon.....for sure I would do my map work also!!!  GPS can be wrong sometimes, we found that out in a rural area ourselves.....but the GPS was a Big Blessing  going through Chicago and all around the  Waukegan area!  I made a Loose Leaf Notebook with print outs from Map Quest of detail streets in Cities that we would be driving through....  I also made lists  from online research of addresses of places to eat that we like or wanted to try and  places to visit! So, when our Sailor decided where he wanted to go, I would crack out the ole Note Book and find the address!  My hubby was always "Be sure you have that Note Book or I will be sunk!"  My family hassled me for weeks when I was printing out all kinds of stuff and looking everywhere on websites, or in hot pursuit of my "Three Hole Punch" ....I had coupons too!!!   We love to eat @ Cracker Barrels, we even make pit stops there because they have clean restroom and real good Chocolate! They also have Books On CD that you can purchase and exchange down the road somewhere for another one!!! they also  have free Cracker Barrel Maps so that makes it easier to plan...  We had a directory style book  that was VERY HELPFUL!  I found it @ Books A Million, it's called "The Next Exit"  We had an older one but this one was 2011 and it was very helpful. I took several colored pencils to hi-lite our route, a yellow one to mark good places to stop....  I was able to plan where to stop before we passed a good place to eat!  Or if we needed a Wal-Mart stop!   It lists gas stations, hotels, stores, places of interest & repair places.

Praying for safe travel,   Hope you have a great trip!

Just got back from a weekend at Great Lakes seeing my son.  Sadly he will be gone from there in 2 weeks.  It has been so nice to have him acouple of hours from home.  I will be so sad when he leaves for Va.

Well, hopefully, things will be bearable-he is supposed to be finished end of July-he is a good kid, still needs to grow up and learn to keep his possessions under lock and key.  He live in the country and things are very different here.  I guess he will learn the hard way.  He needs to know that he doesnt have to let these people control his life, that he controls his life.  I am sure if he finally gets enough he will go to the ship's Chief, but it will be the last option he has before he does that.  thanks for all the comments

Paybacks.....I'm so sorry your GS is going through these awful times. They are currently tightening up the ship up there, so tell your GS to keep his nose clean, his important stuff locked up and don't give up and get discouraged. It is important to bring things to their superior's attention.

As Angie said too..... roomates DO let their "friends" into thier rooms. They have the power to do so. It's not as if those without a key can gain entrance without the permission of someone else. BTW...the "rumors" of no one doing anything?...is only there because people are afraid to say something for fear of being singled out.  My son had to deal with a little bit of animosity from a couple of guys.....said, "So is it TRUE that you posted something on FB about us?"  He said, "NOPE, I never posted ANYTHING on FB...PARENTS have been posting on FB!"  They just about crapped. LOL

Anti M, My friend's husband is a Marine and when he became a Staff Sergent his superior slugged his pin into him too. (sorry I don't know the name) This was 15 years ago so I don't know if it is still done.  I am sure the Navy Seals have traditions that they do too.

I have a friend who used to be in the Navy. She left after she married another Sailor. Anyway, she told me that when she was on a ship, she had her undies stolen. After that, she wound pack the ugliest undies ever to take on ship, LoL

I told him to keep his bank card and ID on him at all times-they have taken them twice-he thought he had lost them had them replaced and they disappeared again-so far no one has used them that he knows about-that can be a dangerous game for some one to be playing with someone identity  So they havent bothered his lap top or phone-I can understand why his room mates allow someone to go into his room when he not there-can they not lock their room?
