Any faimlies with sailors on carriers? My son is just going to report to the Nimitz... just thought it would be nice to get to know other parents whose sailors are on them and how much contact do you get?

same for Ben. in fact, I would check his bank accounts for him alot, cause it was also very slow and he couldn't get thru.

the ships have internet, but alot of servers are blocked. that might be a problem.

Merry Christmas!

I put the poem "A Sailor's Christmas" in a blog post on my page. It will make you cry, but read it anyway.

Hi all,
When Ben was deployed on the Lincoln, I would get those safe comments also. I didn't like them too much and usually told people to remember the Cole, which was attacked in Yemen. And I would also remind people that my sailor was in harm's way too, as the crazies in the world also had airplanes and bombs. Granted, it is not as dangerous as frontline army or marines, but I resented the implication that he was not in danger.
Ben was in the Persian Gulf when the nut in Iran was threatening to block the strait of vermos (spelling?) and trap the ships in there. that was a very scary thought for this mom and I was happy when they left.
After spending 5 days on the Lincoln, I can agree about it being a dangerous place. Just walking thru the hanger bay can be a problem-like tripping over a huge chain, cause you are gawking at things (me).
It can be very windy on the flight deck and there is alot of activity. The sailors do their jobs really well-as a team, but 1 misstep can be a problem.
I was fortunate in that I heard from Ben almost everyday by email. Encourage your sailor to keep in touch that way. But when it was blocked a few times, that was a little nerve racking.
You cope by praying on a daily basis.

Oops, I meant Proud ABH Mom about being adopted.

That's a great idea. I contact the Lincoln ombudsman several times when my son was deployed. they are very helpful. And actually, I agree with Angie. I don't think that Ben would want to be adopted. Alot of times the guys make friends with others and get invited somewhere.
