Any faimlies with sailors on carriers? My son is just going to report to the Nimitz... just thought it would be nice to get to know other parents whose sailors are on them and how much contact do you get?

Port calls? Carriers get port calls? Someone should have told my CO's.

Comment by Laura on December 7, 2013 at 4:09am

Mail to a carrier in that area is so random it could make you nuts.  Sometimes 6 to 8 weeks, sometimes 3.  It is very unpredictable.  Just depends on their port calls, at sea replenishments and mail delivery backlog.

As expected, important stuff travels first.

On the customs form, there is a box asking what to do with the package if it is undeliverable. (address label came off etc.) always write "Chaplin" in that box.  Be sure to tape his address to an inside flap of the box as well.  It's a good second chance for delivery.

petesmom - Congratulations on your son being 'Sailor of the Day'.  I'm sure it will be wonderful to have him home for Christmas as well!

Just found out my son is Sailor of the Day, I'm so proud of him, he's on the Nimitz and should be on U.S. soil soon.  He's coming home for Christmas, haven't seen him since last Christmas, now I'm so happy and proud of him.

Carrier v Submarine.

Work of Nuke certified may be better on Carrier when you consider the Nuke certified may perform the duties of an ET as well if qualified. Transferring from Nuke to ET would not be that difficult because the Nuke certified already studied the ET core. You may think of the Nuke certified as an advanced ET if he/she took the ET side of the Nuke program.

The ET's equal on the Aviation Side is AT which is an Aviation Electronics Technician v the ET is Electronics Technician.

Nuke on carrier and ET on carrier are ships company so they will be firefighting certified and likely members of a fire party as members of the Engineering Department.

AT's on carrier will be firefighting certified if ship's company but may or may not be members of a fire party.

The amenities on a carrier are better because it is a floating city.

Kris A my  boy is on the Nimitz  right now.  He is emailing me but of course it takes a minute to get it.  They are 20 hours different time than us. If you want to talk let me know. I'm in AZ.
