We are doing these units. They are out of Wisconsin (of which I am a native) and were at Ft. Hood when the terrorist attack occured on early November. They lost several members of each unit. Dori suggested that we do something special on the pillowcases for this unit and we chose angels because medical people are "angels of mercy". Maryellen is our mom coordinator for these units. She is doing an outstanding job already getting us the necessary information.

467th - this unit will a combo of then bands of angels and the appliques on the pillowcases. There are 46 in this unit, 21 female and 25 males.

1908th - this unit will have also have a combo of both types of  angel pillowcases.  There are 46 in this unit, 12 female, 34 male.

Fallen heroes - we are going to give the family of each fallen soldier a pillowcase to remember their loved one. There are 5. Lyn has graciously said that she will embroider something special.  The Wounded will get the same type as the unit. FRG contacts. There are 2 and Maryellen will make those.

I am posting some other photos that were sent this month too.

This pictures gives me so many mixed emotions - a HUGE gun in one hand and a pillow in the other??? (looks like he could use a pillowcase, Sue)

I suggested a couple of things, one of which was a small band that has angels on it. There are several reasons. One is in rememberance of their fallen comrades. They are wearing a black band in their memory. The second is that they are a medical unit, angels of mercy and caring. It is symbolic of that. Third is that we are sending guardian angels to watch over them while they sleep. One of my favorite musical passages is fromHanzel and Gretel:

When at night I go to sleep
Fourteen angels watch do keep;
Two my head are guarding,
Two my feet are guiding;
Two are on my right hand,
Two are on my left hand,
Two who warmly cover
Two who o'er me hover,
Two to whom 'tis given
To guide my steps to heaven.
I like the angel theme. And with Christmas fabric in the stores, I bet we could find some. I have alittle bit, will have to check.
I think we should add this poem to our pcs along with the name of "angel of mercy". what you do all think?
I have enough angel fabric for 4 pillowcases. Its washed and ready to go. I also might have a small angel on my old embroidery machine. Its the same machine that does the hearts. I'll let you know what I find.
Dori mentioned doing the angels as a band. Maybe a solid or tiny star print with an angel band?

Maryellen, we are getting ahead of ourselves, but once you hear something, I guess we'd like to be prepared.

Lyn are you feeling better and up to sewing? I don't want you to feel rushed!
I'm fine. Not up to sewing another 250 of anything but I can handle 4 pillowcases. I'm still looking for those little embroidered angels, there around here somewhere.
Sue, as when we started with the NY, we can always use the pillowcases, hopefully for the 467th but if not, for another unit. I can't look for angel fabric until after Christmas but I will then.

Lyn, definitely pace yourself. We want you to continue to heal and not have a relapse!!
sounds like angels it is. I'll dig out what I have. and we'll just be ready.
I went to three different fabric stores and I did not find any angel fabric. What about an angel or angel wings rubber stamp? It can be stamped on solid fabric with fabric paint.
great news! one of my Tucson crew went to Hancocks today and got 8 yards of angel fabric of 3 different prints. I am picking it up tomorrow.

Maryellen has enough to make 9 -11, Lyn can do 12 so I think we are covered. I will reserve the stamp idea though just in case we run short! thanks RB for the idea.
Hi all,
I picked up the 4 different prints yesterday, so I believe we have the group of 40 covered on this one. At this point, it will be Lyn, Maryellen and myself doing the angel pillowcases.

Thanks to all for searching for me! I appreciate it.
