Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)

So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Okay~ Moms that have DEPpers yet to leave... GO TO THE SWEARING-IN if at all possible. We went to the hotel the evening before and had a great family dinner with our SR. Going to MEPs for the swearing-in was LOOOONG but great! Take tissues and camera of course! At my son's there were MANY recruits for Marines and Army. Not too many for Navy and less for Air Force... and one lonely Coast Guard recruit. This experience is a good introduction to the Navy's famous "hurry up and wait" means of operation. I didn't mind. It afforded us precious moments with our son and we got to chat with other parents. You will be saddened by the number of kids who have no one there with them. You will touched by the eagerness and excitement of the recruits and the ceremony is awesome. My son's was done by a women Army captain who told the recruits about her own journey from enlisted to non-commissioned officer. It was inspiring, as were the recruits serious faces, filled with determination and hope! GO! It will take a long time, but it is worth it! My son did not want us to go to the airport. He wanted to hang out with his fellow recruits and I think that was good. He is 18, but has traveled alot, even out of the country with us and with school. We said our good byes (see you soon!!) and waved to him on the bus! My heart was filled with pride. Yes, I've cried and have NOT even dared to approach his room, but I am CHOOSING to be in a state of gratitude for this opportunity that the USN has given my son. Hugs to all my fellow August moms! ♥♥♥

I got the "I am here" call at 12:30am this morning.  My daughter left MEPS at 1:30 yesterday and had a couple flight delays because of weather in Chicago.  My husband, daughter and I all had a little break down when saying our good-bye out in the parking lot before they boarded the bus but I think we all pulled it together pretty quick.  Everyone keeps asking if I am ok which is somewhat irratating but comforting knowing I have their support.  But truth be known I really do have a feeling of calmness now that I haven't had in the past few weeks and days.  I know she is where she needs to be and that she is on her way to becoming the awesome women that I know she can be.  Very proud of my Navy Girl!

Philly5~ Hope your day goes well! Stay busy!! My son made his 30 second call last night at 12:32. He sounded good! I am determined to stay busy and positive. Yes, the iced tea jug did make me cry (my son's fav)... and his truck, and his dog, but overall doing pretty good! Hugs to you!

Our son left yesterday (aug 8th) for Great Lakes. We got the "I'm here" call just 3 hours after he arrived! Completely shocked, expected that in a day or so. He sounded good and said he could call in 2 weeks! He was a bit jumpy the last 24 hours too, I think he just needed to get on that plane and get going. Thank you Navy moms for this site!

we are up in Maine for our last family vacation, at least for a while!  We've planned a going away party for next weekend and then he's off to the hotel and MEPS on the 24th.  He seems a bit jumpy lately - I guess he's nervous.  I think I'll write him a letter, since he doesn't seem to want to talk about anything.  We are planning to take him out to dinner and then attend his swearing in the next am.  I can't believe it's finally here!!

We just dropped off our son too -  Dinner tonight and then we will be at MEPS in the morning at 8:30 for his swearing in and hugs that must last until his grad date.  He's on his way and completely stoked.

Today's the day my daughter leaves for MEPS, then tomorrow August 9, swearing in and leaving for GL.  We're going up to see her tomorrow, then wait with her at the airport, and I guess that will be it for quite some time except for the  "I'm alive" call tomorrow night.  She seems to be very excited, and her best friend is actually going at the same time, which of course makes it easier for both of them!

This will be a tough couple of days for me.  :(

We had a send-off party for Tyler yesterday. I think he's a bit nervous, but doesn't want to let it show.  We take him to Kansas City tomorrow night, MEPS Tuesday to swear in, then off to the plane to head to Great Lakes.  I am grateful for the advice and information I have  received  on Navy for Moms!!
