Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)

So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Louann - the GREAT news is that you got your letter, and know your PIR date!!! I'm sure the unhappiness had more to do with him being exhausted and in transition than the actual job change. Keep supporting him, I'm sure they will help him find another job that he will be excited about.

Thanks for the info PKsMom.

Funny dream story - I haven't cried any real tears since my son left, but last night I had a dream that he was just leaving, and I was sobbing! Of course, being a dream, it was a little crazy, he left with his recruiter on a submarine, and there were a group of mom's on it too (I'm guessing that was all of you LOL), and I jumped on (not in, we were all riding on top) and all of a sudden we were in Japan. And there were shooting stars. Huh, wonder what all that means!

Louann - HUGS!!!! My son's friend is color blind and he leaves in November. He got a great job - Advanced Electronics Field - he's going to be on a sub... don't worry! Your boy will be ok!!! They want him to succeed! Be strong!!! We are here for you.

Now you know your PIR date and can start making some plans!!! Woohoo!!

Oh louann.... I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm sending hugs your way. Maybe they can find another job he can get excited about.

Dana - you crack me up! I hope the recruiter does call you with the address! We need all the sanity help we can get! :)

Went home for lunch, finally have "the letter". I was so excited until I read my son's comments. He is very unhappy . They say he is color blind and now he must pick a new job. He wanted to be a aviation machinist mate. I have not stopped crying. Anyway, at least now I know my PIR date is 10/1.

No letter in the mail today. :(

There's still hope for the box, though... and hopefully a call from the recruiter with the address. That would help my sanity a bit. :)

Navy Mom LG, I think the 330's are 10/8, not sure of 340; the 800s are spec ops and 822 (my recruit's div) is on 10/8 (my son left 8/9 and most of those kids leaving that date have PIR on 10/1 so spec ops must be running a week behind everyone else, or else they filled up one group and moved to the next, not sure about that.) Does this make sense? LOL

louann you do mean the form letter, right? With the address and PIR date. I'd call the recruiter every day since it's been a couple of weeks for you.
Comment by Kelly (Pink) Curtis' Mom on August 23, 2010 at 1:45pm
Dixie - woohoo! so glad you got the letter!! I can't wait for mine! I hope I get 10/8 too.

Jessica - I'm with ya! The Fed Ex hub is close to our house so I'm totally stalking them from now on! How cool that Thomas' PIR is on your birthday! That's really special!

Midwest - I'm with you that crying Mom tears are ok. My son seemed to understand that it was because I loved him and was proud of him. (that doesn't change the sadness I feel because he's gone tho!)

Good afternoon (here); just catching up; took my daughter to the dr this morning for a nasty bug bite she got while at a campground this weekend; put her on antibiotics for it, and she also got nailed by mosquitoes, poor thing, while she slept (inside a camper but guess those bloodsuckers snuck in...) Anyhow,

Thinking of those who are sending their kids off today and tomorrow; it's tough but it gets better! Look forward to the 'kid in a box'!

louann0628, We got our letter in one week, I don't know if it takes up to two weeks or not, but I think most people get it within one; keep on bugging the recruiter, he should be able to find out! If he doesn't get back to you soon, see if you can talk to the recruiter in charge. Best of luck.

Dwayne's mom, hope it goes well for you, can you see him off at Meps? It was a long morning for us when we did, but I'm glad we hung around. I'm sure your son won't mind a few mom tears! Hugs to you all.

Sharon, hope your deliveries went well this morning! My school doesn't officially start for the kids til the 30th, but I go back Wednesday "officially". LOL at the high schoolers' "unh" after your (I'm sure PERKY) "good morning" to them!

Thanks Dana and NavyMom for the info. NOW I have a mission...FedEx Trucks hahahaa I hope T's (Thomas) PIR is on 10/8 MY BIRTHDAY woohoo!
Comment by NavyMomLG on August 23, 2010 at 1:29pm
Jessica - It was my understanding that they have the option to donate their clothing rather than mail it home (at their own expense). Since you have everything else, he may have chosen to do that. My son was going to donate, but I specifically requested the box, and then he decided to keep his cell with him, so he had to send it home.

Thanks for the info on the divisions Dana.
