Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)

So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Ok, I have to admit that I went by the recruiting office again (though I didn't admit to them I had been there the day before). I was going to take cookies, but was running late getting to the gym so I just swung by and asked for the address. I also told the recruiter thank you for everything he did for my son and that I thought the DEP program is excellent. The only damper to this being a very moving moment is that my 9 y/o daughter was being a little witch and wouldn't even take a ball from another recruiter who was trying to give it to her. So I told him to throw it at her and they made a big joke about it, but I was mortified that she was acting like that and being so disrespectful. Fear not I chewed her out on the way to the car.

So, now I know he's in Division 339, Ship 10. The realization that he will be in Virginia just hit me today. I'm sure anyone who was in the women's locker room at the gym who walked by and saw me crying thought I was crazy. He had some DEP paperwork that said something about Virginia, but I didn't know what that meant. My husband told me that is where the Enterprise is out of and suddenly it all made sense. This is all after I had to call and admit to him that, yes I am insane, and made a detour to the recruiters office to get the address he had just told me to be patient and wait for. I think he was secretly waiting for the info too because the reason I was all the way in the locker room is that when we hung up he immediately looked up all that he didn't already know about the Enterprise and texted me back the info later.

So, good and bad news all at the same time, but I'm starting to get the idea that's how the Navy mom thing works. I'm happy for him that he gets to be on an aircraft carrier because that's what he wanted and aviation is his career. Too bad he couldn't be on one in San Diego, where my sister lives so that I could go bug him all the time though.

I hope all the rest of you had a good day. I worked my butt off (literally) at the gym today hopefully some of you can keep your spirits up enough to also do the boot camp challenge.

NavyMomLG, so glad you made it home in one piece and didn't meet a cop on the way. You could have probably explained your way out of it but you never know. It has been 11 days since my son left and I check the mail 3 times a day. My mail comes late in the afternoon and the last thing I got was the form letter on Monday. I am hoping that maybe something comes tomorrow but in any case I am mailing a second letter on Monday. I spent the afternoon sending out the last payment on our second car, YEAH no more car payments. At least for a while. I then went to Target to purchase 2 gift cards for the daughters of a friend. They are taking the oldest to college in the morning and the other is starting 4th grade on Monday. I got home around 5 and have been playing a game on the computer while listening to the Ranger's game on TV. I too will be shopping for cards to send my son this weekend and I am very particular so will probably spend hours looking for just the right ones. I think the thing I miss the most since he left is the joking and silliness we have in common. He is the type who never wanted me in his business but I could find things out and hold them against him. He is the quiet one in the family. I just realized today how apprenhensive he may have been before his recruiter took him to the hotel the night before his swearing in. We went to Cracker Barrel for brunch and he always ordered pancakes. He didn't eat very well. We joked around as usual but I was weepy and I know it affected him. Oh, how I wish I could go back and do it all again. Hold off on washing your sons clothes for a day, or a week, and you will get through these first couple of weeks okay. I send you my best and will be looking for your posts. Have a great weekend!

MaryK - Your not rambling, you are feeling! I know exactly what you mean. My daughter moved to another state and took my one and only grandchild, I just knew I wouldn"t survive that. Now my son is gone and I have no one here. On top of that, my daughter is having my 2nd grandchild in a little over a week and they live so far away I wonder how he will ever get to know me. Now look who's rambling. LOL

Elaine, that's wild. My son was born in early 1992. I guess I was lucky not to have to wait for a room. Of course it helps that I worked in the post-partum ward of that hospital while I was pregnant with him. I feel old being attached to Desert Storm now, but maybe it helps that my hubby is 5 years older than me? No? LOL.

That's great to know. I am soooo glad I found this site. I really don't think I could have done this alone. The women on here are great!! Thank you so much for explaining these things to me.

Oh, I see. I have a question about that. I am out of work on medical and it doesn"t look like I am going to be cleared for travel by October. What happens when a parent can't be at graduation? Does he still get to leave post for the weekend? I can't imagine my son being the only one graduating without someone there.

I have no idea. This is my first day on and I don't even know what your talking about.LOL Sorry, but I don't know about the ribbons yet.
