Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPpers leaving in the month of August (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPpers/Future Sailors....in, but not gone yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like what to send with them to Boot Camp and BC videos! :)

So if you have general information and comments that will be helpful and/or encouraging for ALL new DEP/Future Sailor Moms, then leave it in that main DEPper/Future Sailors Group, but if you have August ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in August, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

louann0628 -
Check out comments on Boot Camp Moms and earlier PIR groups. LOTS of info there on places to stay and things to do.

louann0628 - I haven't booked anything yet, because I don't have the PIR date, but from what I have read on this site, you definitely want to stay near the base, not Chicago. Chicago is about an hour away, and you want to be on base for the graduation by about 7 am. I plan to stay at one of the hotels that has a free shuttle to the base so I don't have to worry about parking.

Dana - each day gets a little better, I'm on day 3 and not quite so crazy! Did my BC workout this morning too!! I still have my fingers crossed for 10/8 for both of us :)

Had a frantic moment last night, the UPS guy showed up, and I nearly knocked out three kids and two dogs trying to get to the door. It was just back to school shoes for two of my girls, not the BOX. I'm hoping maybe today. At least the UPS guy knows what he is in for the next time he shows up!!!

Help..those of you have already booked your trip to PIR, where did you find your best deals? I can get a flight/hotel/car package but the hotels are in Chicago not Great Lakes. Any suggestions?

Good Morning! You ladies are so funny. I enjoy your posts so much!

It's only Day 2 for me and I feel like it's been a month (or more!) ... wish it had been. I've been carrying my cell phone in my pocket and keeping the house phone within arms reach like they are worth a million bucks. It's weird... I'm not hoping for a call yet because that might not be good... I'm just so darn on edge I can't seem to shake it.

Changed my profile pic to Spike dog - he has a love/hate relationship with the UPS guy, barks like he'll take his head off while wagging his tail and interjecting cries that mean "please come in and visit me, please, please, please"!

Many ((((HUGS)))) for those starting this journey this week (join the PIR groups when you find out, mine is 10/8) and those in the middle and nearing the end of the BC journey! It's so nice to read the posts of those who have already finished BC and have moved on to A school, but I keep thinking, baby steps, don't get too far ahead!

Sharon, I sympathize with the Iraq postage, my nephew was in a few years ago andI sent a big box with a small xmas tree and a lot of treats to share and it cost a LOT more than the stuff inside but it made him happy. (didn't think too far ahead what he'd do with the little xmas tree, lol, but I knew he was in the green zone and not hoofing it all over the country)
I do have to say, Pringles, Nasty!!! But whatever makes them happy!!!

I keep missing all of the conversations because I ACTUALLY go to bed! You ladies need to get your sleep! LOL

khoov00, great for you to have that motivation, and to be working out. U Go Girl! Of course you're still 39, my recruit was only (x?*() years old when I was 39, but you have motivated me to take a walk today! Actually last nite my hub and daughter and I went biking on a local rail trail, my legs feel fine but my BUM is sore! lol

Sharon and Becky, love your rambles, keep them up!

No news is good news, no news is good news...

Tiffsmom - you must have the second dumbest dog on the planet because my son's Golden is #1 dumbest dog (also pretty and sweet). I can totally see her doing that and she does scare people who come to our fence (which is why we have a 6 or 7 foot fence). Some people tell me that they are afraid of her because Goldens smile and I guess they think that's creepy. It's also decieving: Brandon's friend put his hand through the fence because he thought she looked friendly and she bit him, not hard, but enough to tell him to stay away from her boy. She loves my bc son and would knock down anyone in the way if she thought he was home. When they were both younger he used to wrestle with her on his bed and she was always so good about it even if he was rough. I think she just loves him so much it doesn't matter what he does as long as he's there with her (think Dug in Up). I can't wait to see her reaction when he finally makes it back for a visit. Now my dog, who is a half sized Doberman, was sad he left but promptly decided she was happy that we had finally given her her own bedroom. She was not to happy to find out that my daughter was actually taking that room and she was relegated back to sleeping on my feet.

Hugs to all the moms who's kids left today and yesterday.

Kara
