It's so good to hear from you, Lori!  How is your son doing now?  I'll never forget your first post saying you had been told he was injured, but knew nothing more.  That had to be pure HELL!  It was so hard to reply to you...trying to give you courage, while tears were pouring down my face.  Your strength and courage are an inspiration for all of us!!!

Jersey Susan, you did the right thing to question Lori's post!   You didn't know her and no harm was done.  THAT is one reason TDM keeps after us about the info we share on here.  Also, thank you for sharing the story about your parents.  Sometimes, that is easier to remember than just a general statement about not sharing details.  There were times when I came here with something scary or wonderful or whatever, and when I went to write it I didn't know what to say. (I, too, err on the side of caution)  Since you really KNOW some of the danger (never mind that no one wants to risk anyone's safety) feel free to gently remind others.

Yelomoon....I believe your right about the intelligent ones sent over.

TexasDoc...I hope I didn't come off as being insensitive towards Lorilab. I feel for her,her family & most of all her son. I am just a "Big Huge Worry Wart"!!! When our oldest was deployed a couple of years ago, (on a Sub), someone tried to extort $ from my parents (living alone @ the time, in their 80's) over the phone. It was a scam for the deployed. My parents actually believed the caller b/c the caller identified himself as our son using our sons name & knew "their" names as well. He said he got himself in trouble & was in the brigg overseas, needed $ to get out & would call back on how to send it.He Begged my parents "NOT" to say a word to us. My parents "sat" on that info for a couple of days before they informed me b/c they actually thought it was true. Now mind you, our son never got in any trouble throughout his whole life. (A Goody 2 Shoes). I informed our ombudsman who assured me they were well under the sea. My husband had to contact an officer in charge of those issues. About a week "Prior" to this call, our son's sub pulled into a port & he made a phone call to them using the Skype method. At that time we lived in NJ & several months later, sure enough on the news, there had been a big sting operation in the Phila area that caught several scam artists doing this. So, that's why I sounded so "Protective" with giving out address info.

My heart goes at to all.

My seabee has not even been in a year and yet she graduated second in her class and now she is at the sandbox. Other seabees who had to take the A school test at least twice are in other places than the sand box. So I beleive only the smartest goes to the sand box. I pray to God they are smarter than the low life sand mans who live there.

Susan, my heart with you. I can't imagine the fear you're going through...my son tells me he's fine, moving on with his life, and I still watch every smile, frown, tone of voice when the war is being discussed, just in case I've missed something, and sometimes it's overwhelming to realize we have war veterans as children. If we can help you in any way, if we can just listen, or write letters or whatever it takes, we are here for you and your sons.

Comment by JerseySusan on October 18, 2012 at 5:29pm

Gee Susan, Your worries are just as hard as ours. Praying for both of your sons. It doesn't matter which soil they are on. My heart aches for you.

Thanks for that "Security" TexasDoc.! I wasn't exactly sure who was the one managing this particular site. I'm glad it's you.
Comment by TexasDocMom on October 18, 2012 at 12:02pm

Lorilab is good....one of our moms. Her son was injured in Afghan last year, she doesn't post much now, but she follows our board. My main prayer was never to follow in her foot steps, she's an amazing mom of a wounded warrior (who is healing and waiting for orders the last I heard).

If I spot anyone unknown, I'd yell...and the post would be removed. If anyone spots any unseemly or weird posts, just let me know!

Ahhhh Gotcha Julie, so all packages don't get delivered as an individual, they will all go out with different groups of military assigned to that APO/FPO address.

Sooo, when a mother popped up the other day asking for addresses to send care packages out to the troops from the BSMA, what did you think? Even though I looked up her profile page & she seemed legit, but I was pretty leery about it & would never give out our sons address to someone I don't know.

Comment by julieb1019 on October 18, 2012 at 10:50am
It is my understanding that all APO FPO mailed is delivered by USMail to a central military mail distribution center . Once it has arrived there than it is sorted and delivered through the military so there is no way to speed final delivery . I hear it takes a good 2 weeks for packages to reach the sandbox.
