We seem to have Marine units coming home with our Corpsmen....do we have any replacements going out? usually when we start celebrating home comings, we have some new moms drop by....any body know the status of how many Marine units might still be assigned to Afghanistan? No names, just the number.

TDM, happy for you but also sorry for your losses.  TNM- I sent you a message.... wondering if our sons are in the same place (company).

Comment by TexasDocMom on May 12, 2014 at 4:06pm

TNM!! great news! I thought that the Command would make that happen if they possibly could!! So glad!

Thank you all for your congrats for my son, and patience with me as an overbearing proud mom. We had to get to the Alamodome 2 hours early, had a lot of time to sit, wait and think, and I thought of all of you who have crossed this board with me, and the fears and tears and thoughts we share....and how very down on my knees thankful I was the day he returned from Iraq (and how I would have been the same if the kid had actually let me know what he was doing on that first deployment with the MEU!)....and now he's really moving on. It never leaves them tho...it's part of who they are forever. Some one said he'd have to wait in line for those 2 hours, and he said "yeah, that's not too bad, I've done longer"...and when we pulled into the parking lot in his car with the disabled vet plates and the parking cop all but saluted him, shook his hand, thanked him for his service and directed him to a close in parking space, I almost burst into tears then. They are our children, but to others, they are full grown heroes, and I'm so grateful. My generation was not treated that way when they returned from Vietnam. When he deployed, he said "please don't cry in front of me" and I held it together and he was so proud, I could see the twinkle in his eye. Well, at his home the other night, I burst into tears....and he said "what?"...and I said "you didn't say I couldn't cry this time!"...All I could think was he's home, he's safe and how much I want that for all of you and all of those serving in war zones. Just bring them home. Let them move on to a good life. Get them help if they need it and let them go on with life. My prayer for you.

Sorry if I'm an emotional mess.  A dear friend passed away and the day after her funeral, the son in law of another dear friend was killed in a car accident, leaving a young widow with two special need young kids. Tough days for our old home town crew of friends.

Pam, that is the best way to wake up! always keep that phone near! TNNavyMom, hope today is the day you hear from your son...remember you're not alone, we're here, not quite as good as a call or message from your son, but we will stick it out with you.

Comment by Pam on May 12, 2014 at 9:55am

How proud you must be TDM!  Thank you for sharing. What an awesome future he has before him.

TNNavyMom- hang in there.  And know that our hearts ache for you.  We really need to meet in Chattanooga one day for lunch!

I got an early morning text message from my son.  I never take my phone in the bedroom with me, but for some reason Saturday night I did.  Lo and behold at 7:30 a.m. Sunday his special ringtone woke me up and I got a very sweet text message. Makes me miss him all the more, but I know he's part of something bigger and I can't be more proud of him.
