Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

dlo1120, thanks for your advice! I didn't realize Indiana could be worse. We will definitely keep an eye on the weather! January is an extremely unpredictable month anyway! Thanks so much! :)

Good Morning All !

Libertythruthem, We live about an hour from GL and used to live about 20 minutes from there. They do get the roads as cleared as possible, but closer to the date keep checking the weather. If there is a snow storm you should give yourself extra time for travel. Driving through Indiana could have more snow do to the Lake Effect may times the get more than we do on this side of the lake. Safe travels when the time comes.

Hello!  I guess I just have questions about weather issues....we will be driving in from Ohio.  We do not live so close to the Great Lakes that we experience the heavy amounts of snow that Cleveland and other areas do so we will not be prepared if there is heavy snow when we go up for our son's PIR, 1-10-14.  I know Chicago has a good history of getting out and getting the roads cleared....will that be the case for the Great Lakes area, as well?  I know unforeseen circumstances can arise at any time, but does anyone have a general understanding of how things are handled weather-wise?

Mirandasmom,

The only thing I could think of right now is that your family will need to split up and part goes to each daughter's graduation~~

Mom2Bella: Navy Lodge is about a mile or so away from RTC.  Very close...a popular place to stay.  You don't have to be military to stay there....you book in your SR's name.

Navy Gateway is located on A School base, near RTC.  Military families can stay there.  If you sailor will be going to GL A School base, she must get a chit when she moves over there in order to visit you at Gateway.  Normally the students are not allowed near the hotel.  If your sailor will be flying out, she is still under the authority of RTC and should not have a problem visiting you in that hotel.

traci:  Sarge has a MeetandGreet the night before PIR.  He will be posting this group soon to the right of this page in the "events" column.  You can click on one of the other PIR dates for Sarges MeetandGreet under pages to read about it, but don't RSVP from there since that is not your PIR date.  He should have the 01/10 group posted soon.
