~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

labradoodles: I don't have specifics on GL A School, but her group on here for her "job" should, and the Great Lakes A School group should too. Have you joined those?
skeeter: On the vitamins/OTC meds, you can give these to them at airports or after Liberty for those at GL A School, but before taking them, they need to make sure they are allowed to. I understand that some "rates" may have to have everything like that run through Medical.
PoodleLady: Could be either Midway or OHare. Not sure they are using Milwaukee yet, but plan to in the future, I understand. Midway and OHare are about 30-40 minutes apart.
The most cost-effective way is to rent a car, but I understand your concerns about driving if from FL (me too!). We rented an SUV when there, but had clear roads, just flurries, so no trouble driving. The shuttles (taxis) can get expensive, but if you team up with others on here to share them, it saves you lots of money!
we got tickets from priceline .com
spirit airline 186.00 round ticket .. 40.00 for luggage .. we got a full size rental car for 210.00 for 4 days .. motel 6 for 4 ppl 3 nite 191.00 we made all our oun reservation too. not refundable . ticket could not afford it leaving this in GODS hands ..
skeeter: The vitamins would have to be given to him at the airport (if flying out) or once he has moved over to GL A School base and has had Liberty with you. Just remember....the many vaccinations they receive when they arrive at bootcamp, coupled with lots of bodies together inside, etc...makes for lots of sickness. Even those who don't get sick normally usually get sick in bootcamp. "A" School is a different story...they return to more normalcy there re: illnesses. But I'm a vitamin fanatic so believe that they help! :-)
labradoodles: Sarge is a retired military man (Army) and lives in the area (30 yrs) He owns a taxi (shuttle) business and gives Navy discounts to families/sailors in the area. He will shuttle you from/to airports, around town, etc. He also shuttles to PIR. There is a local taxi service too that acts as shuttles on PIR morning from most of the hotels.....same price as Sarge ($3/pp each way, but if your use Sarge's airport shuttle service, he takes you to PIR for free).
Sarge also has a wealth of knowledge that he will share not only in the cabs but at his MeetandGreet held the night before PIR. His MeetandGreet is the largest as far as attendence (there is also one at the Ramada and Flanigans). He will post his link for this group in the next week or so, I believe, in the "events" section to the right of this page. That will give you the info/chance to RSVP (he feeds you...good food, we hear!). It is open to all family members (including children) and friends of the new sailors.
Sarge 847 212 0246 (call or text) or johnspadaro@att.net
He will have a sign up list at his MeetandGreet for his shuttle service to PIR.
The SRs will be able to update their PIR guest lists about a week before PIR. At that time, they put in the actual names of the attendees (some may have put "Mom, Dad, etc" in the one in the form letter).
No sailors are allowed to spend the night out. Those staying at RTC and flying out will return to base around 8 or 9 pm PIR night...bussed to the airports in the wee hrs of Sat. morning to wait for flights (some may leave on Sunday if they can't get flights on Sat.---in that case, they would get Daytime Liberty with you on Sat. as well.) They won't know flight info until shortly before PIR.
Those transferring to GL A School base will do so shortly after PIR. They will call you for "pick up" from that base (next to RTC) later that afternoon. They will have to return to base later that night and can be picked up early the next morning. They get Daytime Liberty through the weekend...and...guess what? Since that Monday (1/20) is Martin Luther King Day, a federal holiday, they should get that day off too! So try and schedule flights back Monday night or Tuesday if possible for extra time with your sailors!
poodlelady Happy Birthday to her :)
Good Morning!
"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for
and certain of what we do not see."
Hebrews 11:1
question: would I be able to bring some immunity boosting vitamins to PIR for SR to take that weekend? I don't want to do anything to jeopardize but this "crud" that he has seems to need a little something.
