Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by navymomx3 on December 1, 2013 at 8:13pm: My other daughter who graduated boot camp in August told me that the SR's earn phone calls different ways in each division. It seems that none of us with SR's in div 910 received phone calls. With my other daughter I didn't get a phone call until she had been there for 2 1/2 weeks. That was really hard because it was the first time I had ever gone that long without talking to my child. This time does seem a little easier though.

I was so hoping for a call on Thanksgiving, some Mom's got them, I didn't, some of the SR's that arrived the same day, graduate on the 10th, his fell on the 17th. I am learning that, for the first time, I don't have control, and most of all I have no idea what is going on in his life. I am learning, trying to learn, patience, and remember that "No news is good news!". I don't know about you, but this is so hard for me!

QuiltingMom- You will receive a letter, from your SR, stating his PIR date, division and ship. Some Mom's have been able to get this information from their SR's recruiter, however, the Veteran Mom's recommend waiting for the official letter. I know it is so hard to wait, but I have discovered, in just my (2) short weeks, as a Navy mom, this journey is about my changing role in my SR's life. I'm trying to live by the Navy Mom motto, "No news is good news!'

Have them include an address as some may receive a response back. :) Also gve your son a warning that they are coming since he will have to open the envelope in front of an RDC since it won't be the "standard" size. It won't be a problem for your son, but it might worry him if he doesn't know what s in the envelope. :)
