OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by Mary_Ship13Div68 on December 7, 2012 at 8:29pm: Ry found stitch wandering the strrets and took him in. He is a mutt but I think he has some pitbull in him.. The first dog we adopted before Ry was born was a pit in Pearl Harbor Hi where we were stationed. Ry loved that dog and we had it till he was 13. Swore he would get another and now we have stitch the oversized lap dog that loves all including our other dog and cat!

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on December 7, 2012 at 8:08pm: Each Ship can hold at least 12 Divisions (I have seen Craig post something about making it where they can fit fourteen if necessary).

Each Division starts out with 88+ Recruits (It may be more now...and in the Summer SUrger we hjust had they definitely had 90+).

They may lose some to attrition in the beginning and a few others along the way for medical, academic,disciplinary (these recruits can be "setback" in their traning. ASMO'd - Assignment Memroandum) or discharge reasons. (Not to scare anyone...just a fact...store it away and read on,k?)

Then they may gain some along the way...the above mentioned setback recruits from previous Divisions now being recycled back into new Divisions.

Most Divisions end on an average of 75+ Sailors on PIR day.

My doggie is a VERY fluffy corgi cross (stumpy little legs), he was a rescue dog. Can't imagine why someone abandoned him, he's the sweetest tempered fluffball ever.

As you can see from my pic that is my sons dog stitch that he made my husband and I promise to take care of when he moved back hame and joined the Navy.

Actually, I put shaun as my picture because that's sort of how I looked when my son announced he was leaving in less than three months for the Navy :)

Here is a bit of trivia from that post about the naming of the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor.

"There were three (3) U.S. ships named "USS Arizona". Many think that the 1st and 2nd USS Arizona ships were named in honor of state of Arizona. They weren't, Why? Answer: The USS Arizona (BB-39) was indeed the third ship named “Arizona” BUT it is the first named after Arizona, the state. This is became Arizona was the last state in the continental U.S. to join the union in 1912, just one year before she was laid down in 1913. The other two ships were named for the Arizona Territory and they were a Civil War Side Wheel steamer and a post Civil War Steam Frigate. btw: No other ship will ever bear the name USS Arizona out of respect."
