Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

We love Shaun! We have working Border Collies (we used to compete in Sheep dog trials, hope to retire to that someday!)

Comment by D'sMomMary on December 7, 2012 at 11:51am: I get you TxDylansmom, my son has been off on tour with his band, went to NO to clean up after Katrina... he's been gone a lot. This is rather strange new territory, though, for sure!

Comment by txdylansmom on December 7, 2012 at 11:07am: I am feeling like a fish out of water sometimes when reading the posts on here. We have raised our son to be independent and self assured. This is not the first time he's been away from home as he went as a student ambassador to Australia / New Zealand for 17 days one summer and he also spent a year away at college. I did cry during swearing in ceremony but I think the other two events have helped prepare me for this. I read the other moms in his group are getting letters and we haven't gotten one yet, but I know that he isn't a big writer. But Wednesday night we were in church and I missed a phone call from him and I don't know when the next one will come. So yea you caught me at a weak moment and I'm kinda missing my boy. Thanks for the ear everyone.

There were 2,402 killed and 1,247 wounded on brutal surprise attack on Pearl Harbor by the Empire of Japan. It is because of the bravery and commitment of our men and women in uniform, past and present, that we have our great nation. Well done by all!!
