Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Just got done reading my first letter from my daughter and honestly it made me cry and laugh out loud.    she just realized that she hates ironing and want to know why she has to iron her underwear :)

@ Betsy - we meet again! (PIR 12/18/10)  look forward to spending another few months with you

@ marmayes - I think our kids know each other, is Seth your son?  if so he and my son went thru the nuke pipeline together, my daughter and yours are in sister divisions, but on the same ship and have already spoken to each other.

@ Txdad - glad you met with his recruiter and hope you get some clarity soon.

Thank you Jamie Ship 13 Div 067...she specifically told me before she left that I had to learn how to use the photo machines so I could send her photos so I have.

Congrats BeeBee!
They will only get the actual Federal Holiday day as Holiday Routine. So 12/25 and 01/01.

My stalking the mailman today paid off!! I got two letters from my SR!  One from Thanksgiving and one from Tuesday (?) They were on P-3.  Anyone know which days will be off days (holiday routine) for them because of Christmas and New Years?  Will it just be 12/25 and 1/1 or will there be more?

@deserrai - I sent my sailor so many pix when she was at BC in Jan 2012.  She was able to keep them all. (and she didn't get in trouble)

By the way...one more comment on the MeetandGreets.  SARGE's is the one we recommend.  It is held at the Sundance Saloon (4-5 miles from RTC and near Springhill Suites, Courtyard Inn, Residence Inn, Walmart shopping center)...but don't let the name scare you off...it is definitely kid-friendly so bring them!  He serves food that he/his wife pay for out of their own pocket, so although it is free to you all, donations are happily accepted!

Sarge is retired military, been in the area for over 30 years.  He runs a transportation service that the GL A School students use to get around in Great Lakes and to the airports and the Navy families visiting their students or their new sailors at RTC use it as well.  He is a wealth of info...he will give you hints for PIR at the MeetandGreet...it is well worth going to his!

More info is coming soon on this.  But if anyone wants to contact him about his transportation service from the airports/around GL, please feel free to text or call him:

847 212 0246

He is Great!

We N4Moms veterans suggest that you all scan your photos onto the back of your letters or on another sheet of paper---collage style.  This will allow them to keep more pictures since they have very limited storage space there.  In fact, many SRs may ask you to send a larger envelope so that they can mail home their received letters for safekeeping since they have run out of room.  This is fine to do, by the way, but wait for your SR to ask for it.  Never send anything to them unless they ask for it, which means that they know they are allowed to have that particular item.

Comment by diannep on December 6, 2012 at 2:27pm

Brinsmom:  There are 3 MeetandGreets, each held the night before PIR.  No, there are no sailors there....just the families of the sailors who will PIR the next day. You will not get to see your sailors until PIR.  FTLW will be posting info on the MeetandGreets as bootcamp goes on so that you can RSVP for them.

PIR = Pass in Review....The SRs actually call it "graduation," not PIR.  So they may ask you what you mean when you say PIR?  All in this group will be graduating 01/18 unless an individual SR is setback in training for any reason.  In that case, you will be notified by your SR that his/her PIR date changed because he/she has been moved to another group.

Uh oh. I sent my daughter snapshots. I bet she won't be able to keep them because they are quite a bit larger than wallet size. I hope it didn't get her in trouble.

Ive only seen 2 others with Ship14 Div 065....  i see we are only at 56 members so far.
