~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Thanks DrewsMomMary, in boot camp they learn all about becoming a Sailor and the Navy way of doing things. Everything for their rate/job will be learned at A-school and then of course some have C-school and they all have hands on training and qualifications for their rate. They are always learning, it's the Navy way :) I bet you are right and he is very focused on the tasks at hand and I also bet he is very much looking forward to the next part of this adventure :)
so glad to have you here Lala, I for one know absolutely nothing beyond reading information on here! My son is signed up to be an air crewman (I don't know what his acronym/letters are) so I think he's doing some extra training and testing and whatnot? I've read that it's such a tough program that many drop out of it, but he's pretty highly motivated so I gotta believe he's sticking to the program. It's so very odd not being able to check up on how he's doing, but I imagine he's pretty focused on his work right now!
You are showing your age and mine as well lol. I remember when that song came out, back when it was a song about the future haha. I am sure he is very much ready for those hugs :)
AO's are a very tight group, there motto is IYAOYAS, If you ain't ordnance you ain't S**T lol The inportnant thing to know is they can be ship company, squadron, and I think they can also be attached to a hanger. If they want to live on the ship then they should choose ship company, They will most likely be working below the deck with ordnance. My daughter didn't want to be below deck so she chose Squadron. She works with the squadron in the hanger on the flight schedule. Her squadron is attached to an aircraft carrier (The Truman) and when the Truman is deployed the squadron normally goes with them. She works on the flight deck when they are out with the ship. Feel free to ask questions I am happy to help :)
I found out that other sailors call CTI's "Spooks". For good reason I guess...
I guess I'll have to nickname my son "Casper" The friendly Spook...
when he reenlists that is...
@Lala.. Thanks Lala... I'm hoping for that short 2 week paper rumble as well. If they aren't going to keep my son, ship him home! There are plenty of aching arms that are waiting to put a hug around his neck and party like it's 1999!! Only a few of us know that saying... showing my age I guess...
Okay, so better late than never I guess lol. I am one of your veteran Moms. I have been helping out on this site since my daughter had PIR in July 2010. In boot camp she was in the performing division and sang in the choir. While she was in A-school she married a young man she met in DEP. 4 days later he left for boot camp. They have now been married just over two years and are both based in VA Beach. My daughter has been preparing for deployment that is to happen early in 2013 but now that they are expecting a baby she won't be deployed for a long while. This Christmas they are supposed to be able to come home which is awesome since they were not home on Christmas the last two years. My son-in-law is an IT3 and my daughter is an AO3. For any of you who will have an AO please let me know if you have any questions. I learned a lot about that rate when my daughter chose it.
I am very happy to help you all in any way I can and I look forward to hearing all about you and your recruits. Feel free to friend request me if you like. I hope you all are have a wonderful experience on this site. It was a life saver for me!!! I know it is very hard with your recruits being away but just try to remember this is what they wanted to do and for many they are fulfilling their dream. They are in good hands and you will be seeing them before you know it. The days drag by but the weeks pass quickly. I look forward to getting to know you all and adding some more wonderful friends to my Navy family.
