For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by DrJudi ship 04 div 087 & 14/094 on January 4, 2013 at 1:33pm: Good morning ladies! So happy!!! Just got 2 letters from my SR today. He had the "ricky" crud, but was able to get his 3rd class swim qualification on the 27th. Now he just has to make up his initial PFA. Says he is "doing good and having a lot of fun". However he had to do intensive training that day because his division got 3 compartment hits, but said that he passed both of his inspections he had. Its so comforting knowing he is doing well!

I remember when you had mentioned that she wasn't too pleased to have to choose another rate in the beginning since she really enjoyed her YN position. Goes to show all that you just never know how much your sailor may enjoy a position that he/she may have thought they wouldn't particularly like at first.

As far as the SRs being forced out of their rate....that is what we were referring to. No "guns to the head" but we are all assuming that if an SR is at bootcamp, they would want to stay in...therefore, choosing another rate if necessary rather than being discharged. For any who don't like bootcamp very much and maybe are second guessing their enlistment decision, finding out that their rate is overmanned might be the way out that they want to take.

Comment by diannep on January 3, 2013 at 7:45pm: Hmmmm....interesting that they said they can't "force them out of their rate" because there have been some ladies who have posted in the past that their SRs were forced out of theirs....my son had guaranteed A School by his recruiter so could not be forced out, but that isn't the case for all. But regardless....hoping that he gets what he wants...IT or another!

Prayers are great and the biggest "power" that we have...because we just let the Lord do His work! :-)

I posted over on the pensacola/corry station group and got a couple of good replies there - basically they could leave at ANY time as we knew before, but it doesn't seem there is any set time - could be Friday/Sat/Sun and we won't know for sure until we're at PIR.

Was told that they can't force him out of his rate, but it might be better to change to something else for better options of where he gets stationed, or for promotion ability, but it's tomorrow that he goes to talk about it, and by the time I write anything to him, it'll be too late to get him that kind of info. Will be saying some extra prayers that it will all work out for the best, no matter what he ends up with - whatever is meant to be, will be - I suppose.
