Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Craig - I absolutely LOVE the Coins you have designed - what a great way to fund your website! You truly are a blessing to so many :)  I cannot wait to get the coin in  and take a look at it!  Excited about my PIR ribbons too! Well, off to write another letter to my son!  I saw one of his favorite little people today - one of my friend's sons' that absolutely adores my boy and he just started NJROTC at his middle school! :) Talk to you all soon!

kenna:  Lala Ribbon Queen is the one who has the wonderful ribbons.  She posts on here often.  Just go to her page and see the ribbons!  You can message her from there.

tara:  There are no last names of SRs/sailors allowed on N4Moms or FB...at all.  Yes, I happen to be on FB also....so know about the exposure of the last names.  That is something the Navy has had to "cope" with and they are not too happy about it.  I know for a fact that some FB groups have been deleted by the Navy for "loose lips" posted by the ladies re: deployed ships.  Such a threat to the security of our sailors and our country.

The rule is that once the Navy issues a press release with Navy info, we can use that.  But until that happens, we are not supposed to give out info like last names, ship itinerary, etc.  An added reason for being careful on the FB groups is that you never know who the group creator is allowing into the group.  This is the internet....after all.  We occasionally get some people who join N4Moms who "raise our antennae" because of the info they have....when we ask them about this, they usually delete their account immediately.  So ....what does that tell ya?  Uh huh....you never know!  But you have a vigilante group of N4Moms on here who are trying to do our very best to make this a pleasant experience for you all by being watchful of things that can cause problems!  :-)

No one is saying that there can't be FB PIR groups.  Just remember that if your SR's last name is the same as yours (and I say this to all on there), be careful what you are posting.  Especially info that your SR may be giving you in letters/calls that he/she may not want shared.  We have no doubt that some connected to RTC (even friends) are on some of these "closed" groups---posing as someone with a SR.  So...if you wouldn't post it on N4Moms, please don't post it on FB.

Thanks for asking about that, tara!
