For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I am going to send it to a friend of his. she leaves in March. I will ask him to return after and share his experience.

I didn't realize the pins helped paid for the site. I am so glad I purchased one for him.

I am going to review the site more to see what the SR's are doing and also give my husband the site. Thanks for everything.

I want these guys to have a buddy they can vent to while in boot camp. It makes it sooooo much easier. As they say "misery love company" ~ha

Everyone (the new deppers) that comes to NavyDEP are really scared when they first join, then all the others newbies hype them up with wanting to go to boot camp, and then everyone is hyped to go to boot camp. I have yet to see a sad group not wanting to go.

Thanks for ordering the coin. The true/original owner of PIRGifts.com found out that I was about ready to shut the NavyDEP website down since I was just getting too many newbie sailors coming on and I couldn't pay for the necessary computer bandwidth anymore to maintain the website. Being a businessman, he shown me the way to gain funding, using my knowledge of what sailors want. Now, I am able to keep it open for a longer time.... My focus is helping sailors, and I don't allow advertisements on NavyDEP. These sailors joined the Navy to earn money, not to spend it. So the coins worked perfectly. It's what sailors like.

I bet you have been to NavyDEP without even knowing it. It's where you will find out the day-per-day things your sailor is doing. Right know it has over 69,000 views and grows daily...

Thanks again, and let me know his user name, and his friend. Make dang sure they come back to NavyDEP after boot camp and pay forward to those sailors that are about ready to leave for boot camp. I want these guys to have a great time while in boot camp.... I know my son had an awesome time!

Craig - I will get my SR's user name. I am not sure what it was. The site was really good for him. he was chatting with a few DEP's prior to leaving. They were even watching the Navy/Army football game at the same time and chatting with each other. I found out about the site on the N4M site prior to boot camp. Hopefully other DEP's get the site info. :)
