For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

They are flooded with shots when they arrive which can temporarily lower their immune systems, they are in very close proximity to tons of other shipmates, germs galore, and get sick. Most of them shake this -- and the RDCs are very accustomed to these sicknesses and watch them. So don't worry! We know of some who were even put in the hospital for a couple of days and still graduated on time.

He said he has to get his wisdom teeth out soon. I'm hoping these two things don't set him back. My phone hasn't left my side, but my husband warned me that his girlfriend would most likely get the first call. At least now I can relax a little knowing he is ok.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, We had our Sailors home and 21 other family members at our home for Christmas dinner and Crazy Santa. It was loads of fun :) Already looking forward to next year when we will add to the family member here with our new grand baby due in early August :)

Ive heard that they should be able to make calls sometime around the 3rd week. Im anxious too and i pity the person that is standing between me and the phone when it rings. just sayin...

Comment by diannep on December 26, 2012 at 2:49pm: No, LadyHawk. You usually will not be aware when they are sick unless they are "asmoed" (setback in training) which would warrant a phone call. Unless they happen to make a call home and then tell you! Some ladies have found out their SRs were sick from a phone call when they were in the hospital! But that is rare that they have to be hospitalized....and most of them resume training and become sailors. The only way you would be able to share in any medical info is if your SR signed something allowing "the powers that be" to talk to you about their medical issues.

I understand how you feel, I was so hoping that I would get a call from my SR yesterday. Many of the guys in his ship and division were calling home. I finally gave up hope last night at 11:30, as I didn't receive a call. I am just praying for a call in the near future and hoping that everything is ok with him. Just keep telling myself this is only temporary. We will get through this and they are all going to shine in February! Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas :)
