Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

My son is in Pensacola as well :) I am hoping to go up for a visit some time in the next 2 months - Want warmer weather when I go so I can enjoy the beach while there! Has your Sailor started school yet or is he still waiting? Mine has to wait another 5-6 weeks at least.

I cannot wait for the DVD to get here! Having a DVD Viewing party is such a great idea! I will have to do that - Now I am even more excited! I was going to take it here and there with me for everyone to see it but I can have a big party and that will be much more fun!

Congrats on your son's first week at A School Kathyb - that is awesome!

I am leaving tomorrow so I'm getting sad but being able to talk to him everyday makes me feel sooo much better.

Comment by sailsetter on March 2, 2013 at 2:57pm: KathybShip13Div099, lemonelephant offered that the keel won't come for a while. There are a few pics at the back from PIR. The Keel is mailed about 12 or 13 weeks after PIR. The DVD is mailed about 6 to 8 weeks after PIR.

They have passed all white glove inspections too. He says him and his roommate are like peanut butter and jelly working together for a common goal.

I haven't post much since our "snowy" PIR. My son is doing well. Still loves his decision to go NAVY. He's at GC, waiting to school up. They've changed the date once already.

I spoke to him about the theft issue. He assured me that he locks everything up. He said that, while he likes his room mates, he trusts no one with his personal stuff. Mainly his cell and laptop. He also said that they can get "hits" on their inspections if all three compartments aren't secured.
