For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by sailsetter on January 29, 2013 at 2:15pm: so confused... Im printing out some pics of each of our SRs Ships and as above the USS Arleigh Burke is spelled "arleigh" but on the RTC Great Lakes Ships map courtesy of www.NavyDep.com it is spelled Arleign Burke. does anyone know for sure.

Im assuming Arleigh is correct as it is listed above..but its odd that the powerpoint map has it misspelled.

Comment by Ole-CorpsmanMom on January 29, 2013 at 12:58pm: I thought I'd share a little information. If you recall I had a few deaths happen since my SR went to BC. We made the decision to not tell our SR during BC. It was suggested that I contact the Red Cross to see if they would notify him after battle stations and before PIR. They could not because it was no longer an emergency. They suggested I contact the Base Chaplain. They sent me to the RCT Chaplain and they sent me to the Public Affairs office. All contacts said they cannot help me. The only way red cross can help is if it is immediately. :( - now to figure out the right time to tell him.

Im asking my sons recruiter for anything 'navy' and I have a few small things i can donate too, If you have something you would like to contribute, let me know and bring it with you to sarges. Please ask your own SRs recruiter as well.

Good Morning everyone :) My Sailor got her new orders and she will now be part of the HSC-2 Fleet Angels, She has been with the Bulls Fighter Jet Squadron for over two years so I hope she likes her new helicopter squadron and is happy at her new base :)
