~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Good morning all.  Everyone have a good and blessed day!

Good Morning, This is kind of a common sence question but would like to clarify. We were unable to find child care for my grandkids so my daughter could attend PIR so we are going to bring them with us. I figured it would be a nice surprise for my son even though his sister won't get to see him graduate. Anyway, we are flying so, carseats, should we bring for the cab/shuttle??? Also, I know our new sailor won't be aloud more than 50 miles from RTC, is the city within this distance? I trying to plan on stuff to do provided we have the time and it is something he wants to do. Thank you

Thanks Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons.  The call was enough to do my heart good!  Praying for another but better quality call on Saturday. :)

Congrats on the call DNmom, sorry you couldn't hear him well. Hopefully he will get to call again :)

You know the truth about this site and facebook when it comes to RDC's checking out the groups is they can find and figure out who you are and who your recruit is from this site or facebook.  If they want to get in the facebook groups they will be able to. It is not hard to find the group. I know we have had RDC's in some of the facebook groups I have been in because there were some moms who's sons got asked these same kinds of questions and they were not members of Navy for Moms, only facebook. The RDC's can also go to your recruits personal facebook page and we all know most of them are not set to private. With that being said, The RDC's have a job to do. They bring all the recruits down so that they can bring them back up in a military way and transform them into Sailors. If they fill a need to hassle a recruit they will find something to hassle him about. It could be his name, the way he talks, the way he walks, that his dad was a Sailor, that his mom said she misses her baby. It doesn't matter they will find and use something. Most of them don't bother to get on here or facebook and not all of those who do use it in a negative way. Try not to worry about this, from the comments and posts I have seen on this group and on facebook I would say less than 1 in 500 recruits have anything said to them about their mom or family being on this site or facebook. I was one who did and it was NOT a big deal. The RDC said to my daughter's division "So I hear Skipper like's red Jeep's and pink sunglasses" it drove her nuts trying to figure out where he got his info because she knew there were pics of her in her brother's red Jeep and she was wearing pink sunglasses. That pic was on her facebook page and on my page here. So we really don't know where he saw the pic. As long as you are not badmouthing the RDC you are probably not even going to hear anything like this at all. It sure isn't worth leaving this site or facebook in fear. The support you get is very valuable and much needed :) besides, your recruits are passed the breaking down stage now :) The light at the end of the tunnel is in full view :D

Good morning!  We got a phone call from our SR last night.  We could barely hear his voice but enough to know he was on the other end :)  We think we understood they had won a game of jeopardy so they got to call.  I also think I heard something about the quarterdeck and they had to be really quiet. The only thing we could hear really well was when we ask him to speak up he said "NO,CANT" really sternly.  He mentioned they MIGHT get to call again on Saturday but No guarantees.  I pray you each have a blessed day!

Good Morning All!

Comment by diannep on January 22, 2013 at 9:04am

...not to mention the "last name" exposure on FB which makes it easy to match up ladies with their SRs in many cases!

Comment by diannep on January 22, 2013 at 9:00am

sailsetter:  Your post inspired me this morning....thank you....because of your humble spirit in the midst of such adversity, I feel lots of blessings will be coming your way!  :-)

K'sMom:  We N4Moms veterans are vigilante to make sure you all are posting "ok" info here!  I think this group is doing fine!

Lola:  I beg to differ with you on the privacy of FB.  I don't know why ladies think the "closed" groups are fool proof?  They aren't.  How do you know that a member of your group is not a "friend" or family member of an RDC posing as someone with an SR?  Trust me, that has happened before.  So the rules on here apply to FB as well.  Please be careful what you are posting there...OPSEC is to be practiced at all times on all social media groups.

Sailsetter, you and your family are going through so much right now. I love your spirit! Stay strong...this too shall pass! So glad your daughter was able to get the help she needed! I will be praying for your family for all the vehicles to be repaired as well as your oven! Hoping your fridge keeps on cooling too!!!
