For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on January 18, 2013 at 10:02am: Sunflower and K'smom, They normally perform at only two PIRs before their own and I have never seen a group that performed at three plus their own but maybe you will get lucky and even find some pics. Which performing division are they in? There are actually 3 performing divisions that rotate usually each week. One will be the Triple Threat which has the band, choir, and drill team. Another is the flag corp and the other one is the ship staff/working group. It takes all three of these divisions to make PIR what it is so that is why they normally perform at two PIR's plus their own. That is also the reason there is usually two performing divisions in a PIR group if they skip a week or even two like they have done in February. There is no PIR in Feb 15, or 22 so there are two performing divisions in the 3/1 PIR group and it looks like there are two in the 3/8 group as well. I hope this makes sense and I hope you are lucky and get to find them in pics :)

On the checked luggage....true, you can pack your full bottles of shampoo, etc...much easier. But checked luggage many times is still searched, so make sure you are aware of the rules for items in checked luggage. Here is a link that may help:

A group of girls with pink VS bags, and a newbie quarterdeck guy being trained by a seasoned one. It brought bunches of laughter from everyone.

That's one thing I love about Southwest because you can check a bag for free and so I can take my good shampoo and stuff and not have to get those tiny bottles. Now the tiny bottles might be good for our SR's since we don't know what carrier that have to take out.
