For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

No alcohol for our SR's - they will have plenty of time for drinking later if they want ;) You can fake it with the Sparkling Cider and put it in a beautiful glass...get some chocolate covered strawberries and enjoy some romantic time in your room :)

I had planned on getting two little bottles of champagne to celebrate (in our hotel room, in civies) but now I'm worried he might get in trouble for that. And I'm worried his tolerance is so low the little bottle might send him back a bit topped off ;-)

He didn't start doing them until after my son graduated as well. We have all heard wonderful things about his M&G from the many who have attended them.

Another way that our N4M's group were able to recognize each other was to wear the same color scarf. We chose a hot pink scarf and at our M&G, we all immediately knew who was in our N4M's group. I even had people come up to me in the PIR hall to introduce themselves. It was so wonderful!

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on January 15, 2013 at 10:44am: I also didn't get to meet Sarge. Like Diannep I have been around too long to have met him, but who knows maybe some day. Several of the different PIR groups have done things to make their meet and greet very special. I know from facebook that the 1/18 and 1/25 groups are making DIV Markers or table toppers so others will know which DIV they represent and some have done door prizes and give those away during the meet and greet. Let me know if you do that and I will send a door prize to someone who will be there :) I wish i could go to all the meet and greets to meet everyone. I have made so many friends here on Navy for Moms and on Facebook :) These friendships you make here will last a lifetime.
