~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

that would be great louielou!! Id planned on donating too.  moms and families really like to honor their Sailor and are willing to spend money on ribbons and coins and tshirts toward PIR, especially during the first four weeks they are missing their SR. I wonder how many moms would be interested in having their sailors name/pic posted on the computer preview screen at the meet n greet in trade for funding (or on a wall)  I am waiting to hear back if that is something he would like to do.

Comment by louielou on January 14, 2013 at 8:02pm

I sign in table would be a great idea with name tags to put our real names and our n4m names. :)

Comment by louielou on January 14, 2013 at 8:00pm

Well I planned on donating anyway, but I will make sure that it is a big one. Such a great man to do this for the families. I can't wait!

I emailed Sarge about the meet and greet to offer to come early to help set up tables and chairs.

this was his reply:

Hi Karin:

All is ok. Thanks for the offer.

What you could do for my wife and I is spread the word that all the food we purchase comes out of our personal funds. We do however put up a donation box at the buffet table, however; for the last three weeks we have fallen short and did not cover expenses.  We purchase bread sticks from Olive Garden, Spaghetti and Penne/sausage and peppers, meat balls from the Italian grill, Chicken and salad from Popeye’s, condiments from the local grocer.   The Brownies are home made by my wife. It is a full buffet – not finger foods and we are NOT commercial venue like the other Meet and Greets.  We do this for the families out of our hearts that why it is important that people RSVP on Navyformoms and on the PIR Facebook page.

The Sundance saloon waives the $1400.00 they normally charge for use of the entire saloon. All we ask is that the guests patronize the bar.

Thanks again for the offer to set up. That is very kind of you. You can pass the word that if any group needs a sign in table or want to have a mystery give-away (one group brought small gifts representative of their state and there was a gift exchange) it was really fun.

Keep in touch. See ya soon

Regards,

John Spadaro

Make sure yuo get the DVD, it is awesome and if you video tape it try putting it on a tri-pod you don't want to miss the ceremony because you are caught up in taping it :)

Comment by diannep on January 14, 2013 at 3:33pm

Betsy mentioned the PIR DVD.  Your SR can order this with pictures (make sure to ask him/her to do that)....or....you can order in the NEX after PIR.  It is $29, I believe.  Worth it!

Comment by Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor on January 14, 2013 at 2:57pm

arebebship, Yes, you allowed to videotape and take still pictures of the graduation ceremony, but only in the actual PIR hall .  Pictures are NOT allowed to be taken anywhere else and if they see you doing so, they will stop you.  We do recommend that you do take video of the ceremony.  There is a dvd that is available for your SR to purchase and we also recommend that if they have not done so, that they do plan to buy it.  Even though, it is highly unusual for it to happen, there was an occasion where the videotaping at RTC did not work, so doing so yourself is a good plan and a great way to assure that you will have a copy of the ceremony later on.

Hello everyone, I have a question... Can you film the PIR? or is it photos only? Thanks

Comment by Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor on January 14, 2013 at 1:18pm

LadyHawk, Koltsmom and sailsetter are correct, your sailors will graduate in the dress blues.

Comment by Koltsmom on January 14, 2013 at 12:21pm

Dress Blues are in right now until April I think they are heavy and wool. Dress whites are for warmer weather I believe they go from April to October except in a couple of states where it dosent get cold and whites are a year round thing.
