For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by diannep on January 8, 2013 at 12:23am: Lisa: My son was up there from Nov 2009 - Feb 2010. Yes, the holidays and all of the down time are hard for them....they just want to get done! My son was asmoed for a week in addition to the holidays....so he was up there for over 10 weeks. He was so quiet as we drove off base on the shuttle after PIR...so not him. I asked why...he said he couldn't believe he was finally off that base and was seeing things outside of it for the first time!

It is an extra challenge for the SRs there this time of year. The emotional ups and downs of being away at holiday time is an added burden. All will be worth it at PIR when they are sailors!

Comment by diannep on January 8, 2013 at 12:15am: Order the shirts online. They have very few at the NEX after PIR. At least, that is what we have been told by ladies in other PIR groups. We were told that the only ones at the NEX are ones that SRs had ordered, but then they were asmoed or discharged and didn't need them. So best to order them online.

If you order at least 3 weeks before PIR date, you should have them.before PIR. They make only.as needed the lady told me. Each Div designs their own.flag to be put on shirts, they don't want any left over so they print as needed she said.
