~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Thanks again for all the wonderful information. We drove to PIR and hit the snow coming around O'Hare. By the time we got to Great Lakes/Waukegan I think there was 6-7 inches of snow. We did make it to Sarge's. I enjoyed it and met some great families but was also disappointed to not meet some of the people on here and some that were with my sons division. I wish it had been lighter, I think people might have mingled more. The ceremony was fantastic! When they all come marching in, the Sailor's Creed, it was all so moving. My son went to A school in Port Hueneme, CA for CM. I haven't really been able to find a site on here for that but I will continue to look.
three4me - Congrats on your Sailor - I noticed very subtle differences in my boy as well. I believe what that mom told you was right. Your boy already had the mindset and the discipline going in. Mine did as well. He was in the JROTC programs at school and he already had the personality ;) Good luck to you and your Sailor! :)
Just wanted to thank everyone for all the information on this site. I would have been lost otherwise.......LOL. Sad we didn't get to any M & G's due to the weather. It took forever it seems to finally make it to the hotel but we made it and figured it would be best to stay put!!! We were able to meet some wonderful proud parents that stayed at the hotel so that was awsome!! PIR was sooooo AMAZING!!!!!! Everyone has / had said that we would not believe the transformation in our sailor, but we didn't see it??? He looked the same, acted the same. I actually shed a few tears to some parents at the hotel when they were talking about how they can't believe how their sons/daughters were sooooo different. Then another mom came up to me and said that if we didn't see any change then he must have already had the personality and displine to begin with. That made my day!!!! Are there any groups on here that are for EOD A school?? I found one but there wasn't much activity, so I hope there is another that I just haven't found. He is at GL for A school then he leaves for Panama City FL on March 13th I believe.
LouieLou - there is a facebook page called A School in San Antonio that myself and another person put together. It is for HM and MA that had PIR on 2.8.13. I am not sure if this is the site you are on but we are trying to put as much info on there as we can and there has been some chit chat but feel free to join and add anything you want.
PIR was an awesome experience! The drum beating, the doors opening, the sailors creed, EVERYTHING was amazing! Our Sailor had told us on his I'm a Sailor call that he shipped out on the 20th but his orders changed and he left bright and early Saturday morning! We got to spend Friday after PIR with him and at the airport until he departed. I am so happy for him! He is off to the next venture in his life!
Because of the snow storm I think many things changed for the Meet & Greets. We went to Flanagan's. There were a few people there but it wasn't set up so that we could meet others from the same division (or really meet anyone). Then we went to Sarge's. We got there shortly after we arrived. Sarge was talking then the meal was served then Sarge talked again. There wasn't time to meet anyone there - plus it was really dark in there. I applaud him for putting this on but it would have been nice to meet others from the division! We did not make it to the Ramada - with the snowstorm it took forever just to get to one place!
Thank you to our veteran's here on the site. You have been most wonderful!
I am so grateful to this website for all the information and advice. It is priceless. My husband and I had a fantastic time at Great Lakes. PIR was absolutely awesome....my heart overflowed with pride and when the sailors said the the Sailor's Creed, I was done! Could not be prouder of these wonderful men and women. Wished I could have seen my friends I made over the last 8 weeks. The day we left for Great Lakes, the doctor called to let me know that I had pneumonia but the antibiotics she gave me should have worked and I was good to go.....Needless to say the weather did not work in our favor but we enjoyed the time with our son and appreciated all that Sarge did for us!
Everyone was very helpful with information in this group. Thanks for all your support. Our sailor graduated and we had a great time with him this weekend. He's on a medical hold so we hope he gets cleared on Thursday and that doesn't interefere with his chosen rate (Nuclear). But on the positive side, that allowed for more time to spend with our sailor until we needed to fly out Sunday afternoon. Here's hoping for good news on Thursday! Congratulations to all the fantastic young men and women on their accomplishment and to all you parents and loved ones!
PIR was such an awesome experience! I have never been so proud and filled with emotion when those doors went up and they marched in. It is such an honor to be the parent of a United States Sailor. We stayed at The Navy Lodge. Our room was great and the staff were very friendly. I highly recommend staying there. Thanks to all the support received here through this site. Guess some of us will be reunited in A school groups. Take care everyone!!
he thought i was silly, but it was worth it that he was able to tease me :O) and youre right, it did give me joy thinking it was him.
Awwww - Too Bad Sailsetter ;) At least it gave you a little joy thinking it was him until you could see him again!
