~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

VIPnana:  You will see a little bit of everything as far as dress at PIR.  But remember...your sailor will be in his/her Navy finest!  So we suggest "dressy or business casual."  Having said that, I was there for a Feb PIR for my son and saw a man in cut off jeans (strings hanging everywhere and very short)...flip flops, and tank top.  Remember....February weather!  Oh my!  Other ladies were dressed as if they just left a club....  :-( ...most were "in the middle."  Have comfortable shoes/boots on though...some walking is involved that day.  Layers is a good idea too...that lake wind can be brutal on the walk!  Its comfortable in the PIR hall, but can get drafty when the big door opens and your sailors walk in.

On the children traveling in your group for PIR, 2 yrs and under do not need to be listed on your SR's guest list (3 guests allowed for this group).  But the 3 yr old will need to be listed.  You are only allowed 3 guests....they will not let extras in.  Sorry about that...they use to be able to allow extras in most time, but no longer.  Only the 3 names on the list can go onto RTC.  They will ask others to go back to their cars.

Thank YOU, Lala, for all you do on the groups!  I am the "oldie goldie" N4Moms veteran since I have been on since late 2009.  But it does my heart good to see people like Lala, Betsy, FTLW, ellen, and the others continue to stay on these groups after they had sailors PIR,  and put so much time and effort into them. We have had other N4Moms veterans to do this in the past--but most don't stay around too long...I was encouraged by my "mentor' JessicaBSailorMom....who actually was in same PIR group originally, but had been on the site much longer than I had and was such an encourager and had amassed such knowledge.  Each of you will be a N4Moms veteran one after PIR...and we hope that you decide to help out on these groups too!  We can always use more "helping hands!"

Good Morning!

VIP nana- my son is in same division- i did get the form letter and one other letter- no phone call yet. Sounded ok-in pretty good spirits-not too much detail. We have to try not to worry too much. I kno it's hard tho.

All the information is great. So much to read and try to understand.  Have not heard from my SR yet (ship 14, div 097), just getting my first letter out tomorrow. Waiting to hear before I book a flight / hotel.  Not sure if this is a good idea.

My son is Ship 2 Div 913. We haven't heard anything yet because we left town Dec 21 and won't be home until tomorrow night. We spent the holidays with our daughter as her husband is deployed to S Korea. It is killing me that I won't get my mail til Friday. Just wondering if anyone knows how they are doing in general and if anyone has gotten a phone call yet?

What is the appropriate attire for PIR? Our daughter is driving up from Louisiana and is wondering what to pack. I am assuming this may be different from the formal attire we wore to her husband's commissioning ceremony in the Air Force and then his wing pinning ceremony. Also, is there an age break off with kids that you don't need a ticket. We have a 20 month old and 3 year old granddaughters riding up with our daughter.

Great info already...thanks so much! I have been writing every day. The first and only letter I have received came 12/27. The first of 4 in the envelope said she hadn't had a conversation with anyone since she left on 12/12 and she was hating it. She said the food was good, she has blisters, and she is happy they are in a gender integrated division. By the last letter she said all the girls were going to braid their hair the same. If one does, they all do!
Then got a VERY quick call 12/28 for security info. She sounded tired and I could tell she started to get choked up...but then she perked up and said she was ok. She also said she may get some time to be with us the day after graduation too!

I will check out the links. Thanks again
And yes! I will be at PIR!
