Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by K's Mom! on January 2, 2013 at 3:34pm: Ladyhawk - I am pretty sure my SR is just finishing up week 1 (Thanks for HOLD Days with the holidays). Today would be 1-5 but I know other divisions are on week 2 - maybe the end of week two...my son went in on 12/11 but the 900 Div apparently started later than others.

Comment by diannep on January 2, 2013 at 3:33pm: Remember...there is a difference in "bootcamp" weeks and "training" weeks. Bootcamp weeks include processing days before training starts (the number of days varies with each SR). and some have a few days between the conclusion of BattleStations and PIR. There are only 6 training weeks.

So....some of them may have just finished training week 1 (higher numbered divisions), whereas the lower numbered divisions may have just finished training week 2 and are starting 3. They lower numbered divisions will go through BattleStations (final test) first.

Comment by diannep on January 2, 2013 at 3:24pm: I just want to point out how clever FTLW is when she designs the PIR pages for you all. Don't know if you know this, but we N4Moms veterans are on about 7-8 PIR groups at a time. FTLW is the one who starts the groups, posts much of the info, and designs your page for you. She is so very creative with the page profile picture she posts (each group has a different one) and even the countdown clock all have different pictures. Love that this one has the Valentines candy hearts since your PIR is a week before Valentines Day. I can't imagine how these groups would function without her! She has been a godsend!

So.....a big THANK YOU to FTLW for all of the hard work you put into these PIR pages! HOOYAH!

Craig - I am anxiously awaiting my coin and Lela I also got my order for ribbons placed. Can't wait to see both. I do have one question - I was thinking of mailing a small note pad for my SR to use to write letters and it won't fit in a regular envelope but I can fit it in a small manila envelope. Is that ok? Dont' want him to get in trouble.
