While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on January 8, 2012 at 9:56pm: Thanks Ruth :-) The ribbons do work great for that and are a great keepsake as well. My stepdaughter and I are also making the scarves now as well. My step-daughter started making them as a fundraiser for Senior trip. We have 2 senior this year so it helps a lot for our family. Senior trips are expensive especially when we have been visiting different colleges every few weeks. Now we just need some major scholarships :-) Right now it looks like she may be salutatorian and we are so proud of her. And our son is getting in shape for the Navy. It is going to be an empty nest here very very soon :-(

unc80- if you want info on the ribbons and scarves just send me a message or friend request and I will send you the info. Does you screen name mean you are also a Carolina girl? :-)

Comment by diannep on January 8, 2012 at 9:41pm: Hmmm....Okie. The 800 and 900 divisions are not in the numerical order theory. "Earlier" division does mean lower numbered divisions for the other ones. So when 800/900 sailors ship out will vary.

unc80: Be sure to check your division discussion group above to see if they have posted the color of the scarves. That is a good place to chat "amongst yourselves" and come to some decisions. But stay on this board for info!

Comment by RuthL on January 8, 2012 at 8:28pm: unc80@ some groups plan on wearing a certain color scarf to recognize each other. Last month when we were there, I really didn't see much of that. Many of us ordered ribbons from LALA and that is how we located one another at the meet and greet and PIR.
