That is a personal preferance (I stated that below). I don't like postcards in general (I don't use them at all in my regular mail...when I do use snail mai.) because everyone can read what I have written. So that part is my own opinion...

Hi everyone. I just got my letter today and my SR is ship 03 div 089

Comment by ZachsDad (ship03/div089 ) on January 26, 2012 at 5:29pm

FTLW, just curious why you would advise against using postcards.  I thought it would be eaiser to have his friends send them if I attached labels and stamps and handed them out.

ZachsDad - They live for mail! We have heard stories of some getting razzed for it...so it depends on the Sailor...and RDC. Send the mail...they will let you know if it is too much. Just a caution...I wouldn't send post cards (my personal choice) use plain white envelopes as much as possible (though we just discussed this on another group...we don't think they really get in trouble for the emvelope too much) but no stickers, glitter, NO musical (sometimes they make them dance to it etc. It too it...lots of stories), no perfume.

I preprinted some envelopes for people and made a short do and don't list for them.

Also,

You can send pictures but remember that all will be inspected for content...plus they do not have a lot of storage space in their rack. Some send a manilla envelope (with the postage already on it) so they can send some of the mail back home. What we suggest sometimes is to photocopy them on the back of the letters you write...I also sent some word searches and funny cartoons on the back of my letters. I typed in 14 font (signed it though so he could see my handwriting!) so it could be read at night in his rack if he wanted too.Don't use red ink...they have a red light on at night (simulates ship board lighting at night)...so they can't read it.

See the Discussion up above "Letter Writing" and "Jokes and Fun stuff..." for tips and links to go to!

A quick note on Gate access. When they talk about getting dropped off by the shuttles from the hotels...normally you enter directly into the drill hall...they may be directing you to the visitors center. This is on the South end. When you drive your own car into PIR the Parking Structure leads into the VC where you can check in and then flows into Midway Hall. I will check the page regularly for any updates so that I can add notes to my posts if they make changes.

Thanks ZachsDad!

RTC FB has released a statement that there will be 14 Divisions (But NOT the detais of the TG...no division numbers) Graduating on 03/16/2012. The reason is is that this is LARGE and they are giving recommendations for driving, extra guests (above the four guaranteed), etc. I will make a Dicussion for it up above.

Now, that being said, some people are panicking(some from other PIR's ?!?!?!)...don't. I read the body of RTC's post...we give you the very same info here on your PIR group. Everything they have said we tell each PIR group as far as the general info...get there early, driving directions and tips. The PIR hall can easily handle the guaranteed 4 guests per Sailor for 14 to 16 Divisions...it is going to be the extra guests that are going to be an issue.

So, your Recruit has sent home a form letter with the guests that they want to attend PIR. They will reconfirm this with RTC about two weeks before PIR...to update it and make sure that they ahve the correct legal name (it must match the persons Gov ID.) IF you have some say in this ...great...but this is an emotional time and while I know how it feels...try not to be when you speak with your recruit about this. I am trying to say this as respectfully and compassionately as possible for you...the written word just does not convey it as well some times AND it is advice before you ask for it.

Does this mean you shouldn't bring extra guests. Well...no...it does mean that they might not make it into the drill hall. They will have to wait in the Visitors Center until the ceremony is over. Some don't mind this as they just want to be there anyways...some will and decide not to go.

One thing I kept as a mantra when my son went through (though I had my days!) was, "Be prepared, be flexible, be strong (courageous)." The Be strong is the Navy's unofficial motto of Semper Fortis. I had translated the other two into latin and we had a Sailor on our PIR group and he suggested adding the Semper Fortis. His GF was going through BC and he even camse to the M&G!

Please read it, they will aslo update it if they have more information to share.

I do not FB, BUT, I do check the RTC FB page regularly for info.

Here is the link here and I will post the Discussion up top shortly.

Ha! Maybe he donated his hoodie because he is used to all of the homeless people in so cal being nice and warm and he felt bad when he got it IL...
His recruiter said to wait another week. He was almost positive it is coming.
He said "Join the Facebook page.. Division 89..."
oh yeah right.... That one Facebook page... :)
Husband would have gotten a kick out of that.
That is how our whole recruiting DEP process has been. Ambiguous. Ha.
I miss him.
Is it march yet?
