I enjoyed sitting beside and getting to know Barb from NJ at graduation whose Sailor was in 90. Our whole family enjoyed taking the train to Chicago and walking around (and around!). Wasn't the weather just beautiful?? It couldn't have been a more perfect weekend. Best wishes to all our Sailors and families as we move on to A school!
MR.MOM here ... IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!! we had such a great time even hanging out with our SAILOR in the airport... I must suggest 1 thing to anyone who will be helping others in the future... to let them know they can pick up picture packages when they return their SAILORS to base before end of liberty.... I saw a very, very long line of ppl waiting for pic's, this is valuable time they could have used to be with their SAILOR...I told several ppl waiting in line & said just be back before the photo lab closes. They where very happy with the advise. I got my son back on base I believe it was after 18:30 aka 6:30 PM and not one person in line.. it took me 3-4 minutes to get my picture package & I was out the door & the on base NEX had around 6 ppl shopping so we had no crowds to deal with at all ... When I told my wife (TABBY) I had everything planed, she had no idea the extent of my planing LOL. My son son told me "you haven't changed @all dad & I told him you did & I am proud of the MAN & SAILOR you have become son, I LOVE YOU!!! then I cried & he laughed.... I loved walking around the base and every SAILOR I saw that had passed, I said congratulations to him or her & the smiles & " THANK YOU SIR " I got is a memory I will carry for the rest of my life...
That's wonderful SandySea!
zStratMom, It WAS everything you told us and then some! When those drums were playing and that door rolled up it was the best feeling in the world. Indescribable! We could tell the performing divisions had really worked hard because they were awesome. We took our sailor to lunch, then he wanted nothing but to relax at the hotel. When we took him back to base, he wanted to buy us gifts at the NEX. He had to fly out Saturday, but we got to eat breakfast with him at the airport and give him his phone and music player. It went by so fast. I'm so glad we were able to attend and so proud of my son and his shipmates.
Wasn’t PIR everything we told you and then some???? I hope you're having a fabulous time this weekend with your SAILOR!!!!!! Get all the extra hugs in you can. : )
When you get home, be sure to go join groups related to your Sailor’s A-school and later, to assignment or location based groups. Plenty of veterans in all these groups as you continue on in the Navy life journey. Keep in touch and pay-it-forward when you can! Many families can be blessed by the experiences you share.
Congrats! Hoping some are enjoying airport visits today...and GL visits too for those staying in GL!
