Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I bought a business card holder for mine at Christmas and had it engraved...saw a few other things I will be keeping in mind!

Comment by zStratMom on February 20, 2012 at 12:36am: My favorite gift recommendation is a commemorative coin. You can get them engraved with the PIR date. In the Military, "coins" are really important, and they have sentimental value that you can not believe.

I like the watch idea as well as the crucifix...any idea where I can purchase these? I like the challenge coins as well, thank you for the website :)

My daughter packed a whole suitcase of stuff for me to bring to her at the airport. It was huge, I stuck it in the trunk and took it to PIR and she looked through it and took like a couple things out of it. It took up half the trunk lol. She should be able to tell you what to send once she is there and knows what she will really need.

For gifts I suggest a good watch, Black or silver or a combination of both, one with military time would be cool and you can also find some very nice sterling crucifix with an anchor (if that applies to your religion) just make sure it is smaller than the dogtags.There are some really cool coins out there for military that you can get engraved but I have heard a lot of Sailors (including mine) who say those meant to be earned and not from family. Not that they don't like them. :-)

Is anyone buying thier Sailor a graduation gift? If so, what are you getting them? I would love to get my daughter a gift, I just can't think of one that she can have and/or use while in the Navy....any thoughts are appreciated :)
