Yay for the phone calls ladies, even the brief ones will put a huge smile on your face :-D
Just got a phone call. It was very brief because he wanted to be able to call the GF too but that is ok. He was very hoarse and it was hard to hear him but the main thing is that I got to hear his voice!
I wish I could find one of those flights!! The best deal we have found is 139 one way! Oh well....gotta be there! Thank you for your help Lala, sorry so many questions!
The dental work is no big deal, lots of the recruits get their wisdom teeth pulled and only get LLD or SIQ for a couple days and that doesn't delay them at all. I would try to book with Southwest if at all possible because they don't charge a change fee. You would only pay the difference in the cost of the flight and they don't charge for your checked bag. So when comparing prices make sure you check all the fees and everything. Also South west has been running some specials for only $69 to $89 each way which is a very good deal even if you have to drive a couple hours to get to the airport they offer it from. Refundable tickets are way too expensive.
You all are going to get sick of my questions! But hopefully after all this is over I can help others too! Of course I have one more question....I have my hotel but booking a flight now. I know they say make sure its refundable in case there is a change. But man to do this its more expensive! So my question is...do you think the dental work some SR's are having like pulling of wisdom teeth would keep them back? I know he has past all test thus far but he is fixing to have those teeth pulled and wondering how that will affect his status in graduating on time?
A' i would think maybe 3 or 4 shirts and one or two pair of jeans will be plenty to start with. It will be a while before they are even allowed to wear them. Make sure he tries them on at the hotel. Some gain weight (mostly muscle) at bootcamp and some loose. My daughter/Sailor gained 7 pounds but it was all muscle and most of her clothes still fit but some of her jeans did not. A good excuse for her to go shopping lol, once she was allowed off base :-)
Thanks Lala, It could me, you know how I get confuzzled! Ok, so a few items of civi clothes!! Oh my, to figure out what he would want most is now the task! I to had heard they want thier own boxers so thats a given. Hey Lala, do you think 4 shirts and jeans is to much? He did tell me in last letter to bring his cell but thats all he has mentioned. I still havent got my call!!! So sad because most of our Division have all got one:( Oh well, not many more days and I will actually be hugging him so I will live! Dont like it but thats just life!
By the way, ladies...just wanted to say...the N4Moms veteran team is not an exclusive club! We all are all volunteering our time here...and welcome each and every one of you to stay on the PIR groups after your sailor has his/her PIR, and help the future groups with the info you have now learned. So please feel free to join us! Believe me, we can use the help! There are currently at least 5 active PIR groups and it takes lots of time to keep up with all of the questions.
So, the more we have, the better coverage we get. So...keep that in mind, ok?
zStratMom: WONDERFUL info posted below. Thanks so much for doing that! Hope that you will do this on each PIR page of the current groups. We are so happy to have you as part of the N4Moms veteran team!
And, I second the recommendation for Residence Inn. My older son went with me and it was nice to be in the same "unit" but with a separate bedroom for him. They are very nice units, and I can see how this was a perfect setup for your group. I also liked the quietness of the area (office park area). And....for those driving, it is PET FRIENDLY so you can reunite pets with your new sailor if you wish!
