I don't know what I would do without you guys.

All I know is that I *really* want to give my husband a big hug.
He doesn't want me to come to PIR because he will not have a weekend off. He doesn't want to inconvenience me by having me fly all of the way out there to spend three hours with him.
Men are so difficult.
I would walk to the moon to spend three hours with him.
And besides I would never forgive him if he didn't fly across the country to see me for three hours... ;)

We are all still going to be sane when this is over, yeah?

They only go to FIT if they get hurt or they fail too many times and their division PIR

Don't worry....MOST recruits fail their 1st physical assestment test. It is really just and assessment. You have to think most of the kids in bootcamp these days have NEVER ran more than the HS assessment test that are give semi-annually and it is usually not a 1.5 mile run in say 10 mins.

Bootcamp has sooooo many remedial programs to help the recruits pass. Many of the fail the initial academic, swim, and pt test. At that time they are sent to remedial programs during the day or at the end of the training day. This remedial is done in conjunction with their normal training schedule so that the recruit does not fall behind in training.

They are given numerous chances to re-take the test during bootcamp up until the 1st endeavor of battlestations.

Funny story....I had a recruit who couldn't pass the swim test. We sent him to remedial 3 times a day everyday (except during holiday routine). He actually passed 5 mins prior to us starting battlestations!! The whole division was so happy because they are taught TEAMWORK from the beginning.

So don't worry about your sailor because just like the recruits in bootcamp RDCs are taught never to leave a shipmate behind and your sailor is a SHIPMATE and they will do all they can to help him succeed.

Hope that helps. Your really getting inside info but I do understand because now my baby is in there too.

Thank you diannep, I appreciate the info and the encouragement.

You all remember...the very important PFA (fitness test) is the 3rd/final one.  That is usually held the week before PIR.  So, yes, there is time for them to get it together and pass, and most of them will!  For those who don't (it is usually the run), they would be put in the FIT DIVISION where they get to try again every 48 hours...most pass this before their PIR and do BattleStations with the next group going---becoming sailors.

It is amazing how strong they get during bootcamp so I wouldn't worry too much about the ones who didn't pass their first test.

Robin:  Not sure my son has worn the peanut butters....he wears the NWU's (what they are training in....digis....navy camouflage) to work.  I know that for the GL A School students, they are in their dress blues/whites on PIR day...and then when they have liberty the next day, they are in the "peanut butters".  My son flew out the next day, so had his dress uniform on again.

NavySoccerMom...What division is your son in?  My son is 087 (the first in this PIR) and we just started getting letters at the end of last week.  Don't be concerned.  Maybe your SR just started writing on Sunday which means your letter is on its way. There is no timetable written in stone here....we are all waiting and wondering too:)  Hang in there!

ChipsAhoy... I've read about this happening and it doesn't necessarily mean that he will get set back.  I would be just like you...except probably wine instead of twinkies ---stick with the twinkies:)  He will be ok, afterall he has a cheering section right here!!

Comment by Jill on February 8, 2012 at 5:17pm

It seems to take about a week and a half to get the letter from the time they write...if that helps.  And they do not have much time to write, especially if they are involved in anything "extra", otherwise, they have to sacrifice sleep time to write, which simply isn't an option for most.....

Comment by NavySoccerMom on February 8, 2012 at 5:14pm

I see where some of you have received two letters, and I still have not received one.  I would really like to hear from my SR and see how he is doing.  This is so frustrating.
