I GOT A LETTER TODAY!!! YAAAAYYY
My baby girl is in the 900 division!! She is performing on graduation day. She is one of the flags...lol She's so small (about 90 lbs wet)
She was originally in a regular division but they felt she was too advanced so the 900 division RDCs took her (and they do that believe me I have lost some sharp recruits to the 900 RDCs). Its like "American Idol" for recruits on night of arrival...lol
Anyway they tried to make her the yeoman (secretary) for the division and she declined. She said she couldnt do that AND learn to make her rack and do flag practice too...lol But she said she hated the P-days however it is getting better. She got her uniforms and she is soooo hype.
I dont know if yall are aware but getting the uniforms is truly a turning point for recruits. They are usually in "smurfs" (navy sweats) during P days. The night they arrive they are put in Navy sweats and they ship their clothes at the same time. Usually the next day they are fitted for their unifroms and receive the items for their seabag. The uniforms are immediately sent to the tailors for stenciling and alterations. They usually pick them up during week one and start wearing them the next day. The recruits are REALLY excited about this day because they are no longer considered P-Day recruits because they dont wear the "smurfs" uniforms anymore. Its really cute, especially when they see the new recruits in smurfs. They start to feel more relief because they are actually seeing their progression...
I am so proud of my lil angel, but she said they are truly busy. And her RDCs are mean (thats not her words exactly, but I understand)...lol
Thanks Sheryl...Kudos to your sailors!! I was a Corpsman too!! Best job in the US Navy
MARLINSPIKE discussion is up. It comes at the end of week three.
Yes, I agree, Betsy. Demetris: Betsy, Lala, FTLW, and I are N4Moms veteran moms who have been on the site for a long time to help the PIR groups. We have never had a former RDC in these groups before, that we knew of Thanks for being here and giving such great info out. You are teaching us too!
So great that your children have followed you into the Navy!
Demetris, although I am not going through the sadness of missing my daughter like a lot of other parents, I appreciate your comments and encouragement. Our family has been involved with the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps since 2005 so we have had some experience with the Navy life. Our unit hosts Sea Cadet Recruit Training (boot camp) every summer. It is a lot less stressful than the actual Navy and only 2 weeks long but the recruits are a lot younger and, in most cases, are spending time away from home for the first time. It is amazing to see the difference in the recruits even after 2 weeks! We also host Petty Officer Leadership training and Homeland Security training. I am always proud to see the difference in a cadet who came to our Recruit Training and then to an Advance Training.
If you have a strong staff at boot camp (and I am positive the staff at RTC is strong and competent) then I can assure you that your recruit is going to be fine.
Hello pavcmcf and all the other family....What you are going thru is okay. We are all mothers and we love our babies. Remember I have a lil angel who is there too and even though I was an RDC and she use to spend time with my divisions there is nothing like going thru it and I know this is a challenge for her as well. However she knows that bootcamp is ONLY 8 - 9 weeks long (including P days) and the RDCs cant hurt or kill you. Also that the "real Navy" is not like bootcamp. Bootcamp is a transition...
She remembers seeing her brother on graduation day about 3 years ago and how he cried (tears of joy) because he had made it thru and we were so proud of him. It was a real challenge but he made it.
I just want to thank each of you for your kind words and I do understand that my baby is no longer a baby and that this is apart of the process the recruitd must go through but.. The mom in me stepped in for a moment and I was blinded by wanting to protect my baby...I'm learning though please bare with me as a new Navy Mom..lol
Demetris, it is so comforting to know that there are RDC's there like you. Thank you so much for your help, support and encouragement. I think the ladies in this group are extremely fortunate to have an "inside" look at their SR's boot camp experience.
