~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

My son shipped from Virginia and arrived on 2/5. Received "the box" on Monday, but still no letter. I am assuming that his PIR is 4/4. This is the second time for us - our other son is stationed in Portsmouth. It is a little easier this time because I know what to expect but that doesn't mean I worry any less.
MommaJ: Don't believe there is a phone number for the telephone cards, but there is an email address you can send your request to on the site.
Free phone cards for SRs:
Each card is 20 min. Your SR will be sent several and asked to share them. Each card will cover probably only one phone call since the connection from the pay phones takes alot of the minutes, so it is wise to mail your SRs a phone card, or they can purchase one in the NEX with their Recruit Debit Card (issued to them for supplies). But of course, it saves them money if you can mail them one! Get one that has at least 250+ minutes on it.
The number of SRs in a division usually is around 88 or so when they start. They will lose some of these to discharge and asmo (setback in training) in the first few weeks. They will then get more SRs back from earlier PIR groups....ones who had been asmoed from their own groups for one reason or another and are now ready to train again. That was the situation with my son who was asmoed for a week and then joined the PIR group that was a week behind his during Training Week 3 (there are 6 actual training weeks).
Yes, 127/128 are brother divisions and train together!
And, remember, only about 10-15 percent of the SRs are represented here on N4Moms. Very sad, but true. Many families have no clue about this site. I happened to find it when I googled after my son left for bootcamp. Be sure to share this website with ladies you meet at PIR because it is still very helpful during the school part of the new sailor's adventure and when in the fleet as well! One lady actually printed up little business cards with the website on it and passed them out at her PIR.
Good Morning!
