~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

sonjal:  Sarge's MeetandGreet is the one with the most info.  He is very helpful to the families as far as hints for PIR Day, etc.  We always see comments from the ladies afterwards about how helpful he was.  All 3 of the MeetandGreets are family friendly, so bring the children!

SailorMomSteph:  Not sure how many usually get the "watch," but is yours staying in GL for A School or flying out?  If staying in GL, I know some have gotten watch in the past (4 hours, I believe) but you have lots of Liberty with your sailor if staying in GL for A School.  I have heard of some who only have PIR Day for Liberty getting watch, but not too often.  Not sure what to tell you  because you just won't know until he happens.

Yes, you can meet up with your sailor at the airport, go with him to the airlines counter with your ID, and get your pass.  Yes, you can go whenever you want to.  They should be relaxing in the USO, which is before security at OHare, but past security at Midway.  Somehow, all get connected to their sailors!  Families already there are good about lending cellphones to those who don't have theirs yet to call their families arriving to visit at the airports.  It will all work out!

Heads up for those going to Midway for the airport visit.  CatMom has posted several times that there is an off-site parking lot...$14/day, as opposed to the hourly "high" rates on airport property.  They have a shuttle that will take you to the airport then.

Question about liberty after PIR:  I know I've read about some SRs having watch....do any of the veteran moms know how "likely or unlikely" that may be?  I just want to be prepared if we have less time with him than we think.

Also, can you go to the airport for a gate pass even if they are already there?  I'm just thinking that if they go in the wee hours of the a.m. for a 1:00 p.m. flt., I can't imagine my 10 and 15 yr old handling being at the airport all night.  I'd like to go though if I can get there at least several hours before he departs. Is is acceptable? Thanks for any info.

Thanks, Lady Hamilton!  I've checked out Craig's offerings and ordered the March Special.  Do you know of any other sites for a variety of challenge coins?

Is there one Meet and Greet that is favored over the other. I would like to go meet other proud parents from Ship 2 Div 921. To all the other ships and divisions, PLEASE Thank them and Thank you!

When would they know this diannep? My son mentioned he would be leading the div but I thought he said it was because he wasthe port watch. ? He was nominated by RDCS with1 other from his div for something to do with military bearing.g.
They pick the top 5? (He came in 6th!) He w has done well academically so I guess well just see. Has anyone gotten a letter?
Comment by diannep on March 23, 2013 at 1:54pm

May 6th is the "switch uniform date" for the Chicago area, so yes, yours will be in the Dress Blues as others have said.

Honor Recruits are selected in each division.  Not sure if they are selected by the RDCs or voted on by other recruits, but they are recognized for outstanding performance during bootcamp.  They will be standing in front of your division sections at PIR.  You, as their family members, will have a special section to sit in at PIR...you will receive a letter from RDC if your SR is chosen as an Honor Recruit!
