@ellen  -  Thanks for the info.  I can't wait til it's my turn to go (this week!).  What gate did you have to use going onto the base for the PIR?

I just got back from my sons PIR 4/20 what a blast you all are about to have. Seeing your Sailor walk through that door is something that will never be forgotten. A couple of things I wanted to pass along to you. I mentioned that if you want to go into Chicago take the train and buy the weekend pass it is the best deal and cab fare is very reasonable to get you to where you want to go. You can take a bus right outside of the train station to the Navy Pier super convenient.

We ate at Wild Berrys once and then were told by someone to go to Grandma V's in Mundelaine instead. Wild Berry is a great place to eat, but Grandma V's is a very laid back local place and we enjoyed it.

Sarge recommends Trattoria Pomigliano in Libertyville for Italian food and what a wonderful place that is. If you are planning on going there make a reservation and give yourself plenty of time. You cannot go wrong eating there! The food was excellent and they have half orders which is good because it is a lot of food. Tell them Sarge sent you.

If your Sailor is staying in GL for A School remember to keep your parking pass, your Sailor will come out to the visitors center and then you can take him back to check out. We were lucky and were able to drive him back to his quarters every night, some are not able to do that and I thinks that depends on the building. When you check them out you must check them back in. Allow yourselves plenty of time when taking them back, it was a steady stream of cars returning. If you are not able to drive them back on to base it is a loooooong walk back to their quarters.

You all will have a wonderful time. It is the best to be able to give them a hug and you won't stop smiling all weekend. One of the first things my son wanted to do when we got back to the hotel was to put on his boxers that we had taken him...lol he wanted out of those Navy issued tighty-whities quickly.

Bravo Zulu TG 24!!!

Safe travels to all of you!!

chibi'smom-I am so sorry to hear that feeliongs are strained between you and your daughter-I think that happens in all relationships from time to time-never loose contact with your child and hopefully you will be able to have a better connection soon.

Thanks Shinystuff, I know you will wear them proudly :-)

They usually get 30 min to an hour and can call more than one person :-)

I know it's late
Tomorrow I should get my sailor call
I'm working and don't want to miss him
How long do they get to talk?
Won't lose my job but I really want to talk with him and not get in trouble at work.
