One of you Div 133 people may want to start a discussion above for this division!

Good Morning all!

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on March 13, 2012 at 4:33am

I will post this every week for about the first half of BC for all the new members that join and as a gentle reminder for the currrent members.

Hello Everyone.

Safety for your SR (future Sailor) and you!

Sailors LAST names are not allowed anywhere on this site. If your last name is different from your sailors it is still not recommended. This site is publicly viewable.

FIRST names are allowed but I, and some of the other “veteran” moms, will most often advise you not to use them. So, let’s say you use your last name in your N4M name, post a picture of your SR...call him/her by their first name...it makes it very easy to match them up with you while in Boot Camp.

SR=Seaman Recruit...this is a good way to refer to your loved one while they are in BC.

Why does that matter? Your SR's are trying to get through BC with as little undue attention as possible. "Fly under the radar", so to speak. So...Less is best!

The MOST important reason for being discreet is OPSEC-OPerational SECurity. This is a way of life for us now. It will be for your Sailors career and for some of them, even more so, depending on their individual security clearance.

Here is a link to the "Community Guidelines" for N4M:

Here is the link for "OPSEC is everyone’s responsibility" specifically:

http://www.navy.mil/search/display.asp?story_id=3342

Here is a link to the video on OPSEC on this site:

Please take the time to review this information.

Thank You.

If your username contains your last name and it is the same as your SR (Seaman Recruit) then you will need to change your username. Last names of Recruits/Sailors are not allowed on the N4M's site.

You may need to change your Web Address (URL) as well as it automatically inputs the first username you use. I know... techy stuff!

If it is different from your recruits it is still recommended as this is a public site and it is good personal security.

Here is how to change your username and web address (URL):

To change your username on here.

Just go to "Settings" which is in the list in the far right hand column of this page...under where you sign out of N4M's.

Your profile page will open.

Under "Profile" Username is the third item down.

Clear the info and type in your new username.

Once you do that make sure to click "save" at the bottom right of the page.

To change your URL also as it contains your real name.

See in the address bar at the top of the screen at the end of the "http" when you pull your page up that your name is at the end of the address?

To change that, again go to "Settings".

Once your profile page comes up go to the left and you will see a list of options.

Click "My Page". The third item down is "Address" .

In the box clear the info and type in whatever you want to be at the end of your URL. Your new username is the best idea.

Again click "Save".

Let me know if you need help!

Discussion Forum Area

This is the place to start a Discussion about a topic and for your Division Discussions.

The Discussion Forum area will only show twenty titles at a time. It is also set to show the "latest activity". So whatever has just had a reply added to it will "bump" up to the top. Whatever is at the bottom will disappear. So, if you want to see more click, "view all" at the bottom right hand corner of the discussion forum area. It is right up there above the Blue Comment Wall bar.

To "bump" up a discussion to the first spot of the DF area when you don't really want to add a reply...in other words someone is looking for it...just type whatever you want in the reply box and click "add reply". I just type one letter and add the reply. Then get rid of it by clicking the "x" in the top right hand corner. The discussion will stay up there at the top without your reply. It's because it has had "activity".

When you view a DF the first post ever made will be the first page. To get to the most current reply, click “Last Reply”.

You will notice that in the top right corner in any post that you do you will see an "x". This is so you may delete your post if you need too. You will also see the “x” on any post you make anywhere else on the site.
